I coded my own 40th birthday card for my Mac Plus in C - the goal is to make it work on a Mac 128 eventually! It is *NOT* easy to do after trying it out in emulation for a few hours last night.
In terms of data, I'm only using a full screen PICT (so about 22kb) and my YT channel logo which has negligible size and working with a full sized offscreen bitmap area (so another 22kb), I should theoretically be ok with all this, and I'm releasing the data as soon as it's been loaded and drawn (or at least that's what I believe I'm doing).
The Mac Plus, which is the earliest vintage mac I own, is soooooo much forgiving in terms of System and Finder versions it can run. No problem going down to Finder 1.1g, shuffling 400k, 800k disks no problem. If you boot in a too recent System version (like 5.5), it can do something unseen to a MFS 400k disk - at least that's what I'm seeing in mini-vMac custom tailored.
I might get lucky and make it all work very soon on a 128, or it may be one of these horrible long winded projects like I often tackle for some reason. I'll be pestering some online friends who have their own 128 to test it out on real metal.
I'll do a follow-up video "behind the scenes" soon and will update this thread here when it's done - it will also have links to the work in progress disk images.
If you just want to see what my Plus shows when it's loaded up, check here:
