Hey there,
So I thought it would be time to sign up here.
I work in IT, grew up with a DOS PC in the 90s and always was interested in "other kinds of computers". I preferred the open architecture of PCs, but switched to Debian Linux after 2003 and finally to Mac OS X in 2006. It was kind of a workstation-like desktop OS with lots of applications and without the annoyances of Windows or the maintenance requirements of Linux. I wish Apple still would be the company of 2010
In meanwhile, I finally was able to rescue few 1990s Unix workstations from work, which include a Sun SPARCstation 5, which is my main Unix machine and an DEC AlphaServer 300, which is the machine for VMS and non-x86 NT. Additionally there‘s a modded PowerMac G4 AGP, which once had a 1.2GHz CPU that burnt away due to a loose heatsink, and a HP Z620 Xeon workstation that believes it is a MacPro6,1.
By the way, the links above lead to stories of restauration efforts in German language.
Current projects:
* Reviving graphics output of a HP 9000/712
* Building a PowerFrankentosh G4 purely from spare and unsupported components
Of course I own a BlueSCSI, too!
And I am involved in the Mr. Floppy DR340 power regulator.
