Help please - MAC Classic refuses to boot from BlueSCSI (DB25 form)

Hello everyone,

I apologise if I'm posting in the wrong forum.

I need some help on troubleshooting BlueSCSI with a MAC Classic.

I have a MAC Classic with 4MB RAM and a 40MB hard disk which is
working fine and boots OK, both from it's internal hard disk and from
an external SCSI hard disk.

I bought a BlueSCSI (DB25 form) from the AU distributor, complete
with a 16GB micro SD card with OS 7.1 on the card.

Unfortunately, I just can't get my Classic to boot from the BlueCSI.

When I power the Classic on, the blue LED on the BlueSCSI blinks 5 times
and then nothing else happens and I get the ? disk symbol on the screen.

About 10 seconds later the blue light comes on and stays on for a while,
but the Classic doesn't boot - it just displays the ? disk symbol.

I've left the Classic on for 10 minutes with the ? disk symbol, just in case
OS 7.1 is really slow to load from the SD card, but no luck.

The Classic also works fine when it boots from its own internal hard disk.

The SD card reads fine in Windows 10 and reports no errors.

I've also tried:

* Reformatting the SD card as FAT32, copied the .hda image back to the
card and tried booting again, but get the same ? disk symbol.

* Reformatting a different SD card as exFAT, copied the .hda image to it
and tried booting, but get the same ? disk symbol (this card also reads
fine in Windows 10).

* I also tried reformatting the SD card that came with the BlueSCSI back
to exFAT again and coping the .hda image back to it and then trying to
boot from it again, but get the same ? disk symbol.

* I also tried copying some other .hda images to each card to see if
this would work, but without success

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what may be going on here ?

I've tried contacting the distributor here, but without success.

Any advice will be appreciated.

I've also attached the BlueSCSI log.txt file from the last boot attempt.

What happens if you boot off your FloppyEmu with the BlueSCSI also attached?

So both your harddrive and your BlueSCSI is connected? Blinking ?-floppy indicates a SCSI bus conflict. Your log indicates that your BlueSCSI drive has ID 0.

Solution: You need to rename the file on your card from HD00_512 [stuff].hda to HD10_512 [stuff]. hda, so not both your harddrive and BlueSCSI drive are on ID 0.

This is the core problem: a repeated 5-flash (pause) 5-flash means BlueSCSI cannot communicate with the SD card.

It's a little odd that a log.txt is created at all if you're getting 5-flash. Did you try this SD card in a different BlueSCSI in a different system before the Classic?

If the 5-flash error code is resolved (one blink at startup is the normal behavior) and the system continues not to boot, it's possible that this Classic's power supply is sagging too low for passive termination to work properly. Do you have a multimeter to check this sort of thing?

What this guy said. Please try again but changing the hda filename so that it is not a signed scsi I’d zero as thst conflicts with your hard drive.
Or you could unplug your hard drives’ scsi cable but a lot easier to just rename a file on the sd card.

Hello everyone,

Thank you for your suggestions and special thanks to VicNor & MacOfAllTrades.

Renaming the BlueSCSI file to HD10_512 WTH.hda did the trick.

I now have a working BlueSCSI !

I'll cross my fingers and try it with the Plus and LCs as well.
