In reponse to everyone who says that you cannot put a newer GPU into a 1,1 Mac Pro running El Capitan (10.11.6), I have managed it!
I managed to get an NVidia Quadro K4000 (3gb) video card to work in the 1,1 Mac Pro. I tried a K2200 first time, and the computer didn't even recognize it on the PCIe bus, but the card works fine in a PC, so I swapped the Quadro's in my Dell Precision 7460 that I use for my Youtube live streaming, and viola, they both work great!
Now, if I could get GPU acceleration like we get with the Opencore Project on the 4,1/5,1 machines, that would be awesome, however, I don't ever expect that to happen. As it sits now, this machine is just going to be a Media server over my network and hooked up to my living room TV, so its kinda overkill to have a Quadro in there, but hey, I did it!
I'm going to hang onto my Radeon 4850HD just in case I get another 4,1/5,1 machine and need a good graphics card for that!
