Yesterday morning I did my daily "Macintosh" search on OfferUp (ok, not actually Craigslist), and a new ad for an old Mac popped up. It was poorly written, didn't say anything about the computer other than it was from 1984, and the price wasn't fantastic. It was clearly a 128k or 512k, I scrolled through the pics and the last one showed a pic of the back of the case, and I could see the HyperDrive logo and sticker. I decided to leave my torx driver at home (well, I actually forgot it) and decided to go check the Mac out in person, it was about a 45 min drive. When I got there we powered it up and it came to the flashing floppy. There was an auxilary fan inside that was making a hell of a racket. Between the auxilary fan and bit of extra heft in the case, I was willing to take the gamble and bought it. They also had an SE that I didn't have too much interest in until I saw the 030 accelerator badge on the front, so I went ahead and bought both. Time to go home and play what's-inside-that-Mac roulette.
Well, you win some and lose some. The SE no longer has its accelerator, but it is a clean, working machine with keyboard and mouse, so not a total loss. It's a 2x floppy machine that has been upgraded to a HD, though the drive doesn't appear to work. The floppy doesn't eject, but other than that (and the dead HD) it works great. It came in a non-Apple carrying case.
The other machine does in fact have an internal GCC HyperDrive. Unfortunately the drive doesn't work, but I'll start a separate post to see if anyone has any advice there Based on the tag, the machine was originally a 128k. It currently has 512k ram and an 800k drive, so I assume it was upgraded to a 512ke, maybe at the same time the HD was installed. The screen looks nice, it's complete with the keyboard, mouse, and external 400k floppy, in the original green carry-on bag. It boots fine from a floppy, though it also doesn't eject.
The machine is dirty, I haven't cleaned it up or disassembled it at all to get photos of the HyperDrive specific components at this point, but I did snap a couple quick photos.
