Hi
I started playing with games on my Mac SE 30 with OS 7.5.3, 5 MB RAM, and BlueSCSI (Beyond Castle, Shufflepuck cafe...)
For some odd reasons, games sometimes crash and I have to restart the Mac.

What could be the reason ? Not enough or bad RAM ?

Can you get a photo of the errors that are being thrown up? Would help for diagnostics 😊

I'm often getting a Bus error message before having to restart the Mac.
Do I need to add more RAM ?

Hi
I'm using Mac OS 7.5.3 with most extensions installed. Shall I install a new OS with the minimum set of extensions ?

I downloaded the games from macintoshrepository.org e.g. . shufflepuck-cafe
I installed Mode32 and enabled the 32 bits memory. I'm still had the getting the error. Cleaning the RAM simms didn't sort the issue.
I removed the 4*256k RAM to keep the 4 * 1MB RAMs and enabled the virtual memory.

With star wars, pausing the game and accessing the menu led to Error 10 (before removing the 1MB RAM, it produced a bus error).

I changed the OS to test 7.0.1 and it worked!
Does it mean I need to add more RAM to use Mac OS 7.5.3 ?

You cannot have 32-bit addressing enabled for applications that are not 32-bit clean. The machine must be in 24-bit mode.

Would the Rominator II sort the issue with its "make your system 32-bit clean" feature ?

Rominator II allows your SE/30 to operate in 32-bit addressing mode, just like Mode32. If you have a Rominator II, you don't need Mode32.

The problem is the games you're trying to run aren't 32-bit clean, and cannot be made so. Therefore, you must switch to 24-bit mode to run them.

Ok thanks for the info. So I understand that I need to disable the 32 bit mode and increase my RAM to avoid games crashing if I keep Mac OS 7.5.

You have enough RAM to run those games under an older System, like 6.0.8.

You can keep System 7.5 on your hard drive and boot from a System 6 floppy when you want to play older games.

Some games just don't work with System 7 regardless of addressing mode or available memory.

I installed 16MB RAM to have a total of 20MB RAM. It works well and most games run now without any error.
The only exception is Star Wars which also crashed in miniVMac on a PC so I assume it doesn't work well with 7 Mac OS as suggested.
