Hey all,

I think I am finally done with my rendition of a MacClock Hackintosh. I spent way too much time on this 🤣

I made a post in the Marchintosh thread but this one is more detailed and now it is finalized.

I'll be making a build video soon but here is a youtube short:

my additions:

• Boots straight into Mini Vmac
• Proper Screen scaling and positioning to match authentic Mac Plus (no need to use the existing LCD bezel).
• Button under the front are functional (restart Vmac & shutdown Pi).
• Inserting and ejecting the "floppy" powers it on and off.
• Custom power up chime when "floppy" is inserted.
• Buit in speaker & bluetooth circuit with amp (auto connect).
• Custom made stickers (no mac branding on my sticker set so I had to make my own, made the large one a replica of Mac Plus).
• No mods required to the plastic case. Everything drops in and bolts together (speaker mounts utilize the Faux screws on back, LCD bracket uses case screw holes).

oh I thought it was a device that played a pre-programmed sound when it received power (startup sound)
It is on this. Funny coincidence but in this case it’s actually generating the sound with loops and pwm driving the speaker.

but the Actual reason its called a startup sounder for the SFXbox is it was designed for this Williams arcade sound player thing I’m making and when you power THAT one up this board pill trigger one of the built in sounds on the Defender board (the insert coin sound or something) so in that case the ATTine is just pulling a pin low to GND.

Burton this Mac mini it’s actually generating the sound. So by coincidence the name of that PCB works in both cases 😆

You can get a small module that will play a sound from a MicroSD card, see this old build here. eBay MP3 audio player.
Ya I have a bunch of those too. Sometimes not 100% reliable. This was an afterthought and initially I just wanted a simple beep sound so you know the machine is alive before the display turns on. But then when I added the Bluetooth module it already makes a sound so I just took a stab at seeing how well I could make a motor sound in c code and it’s doing surprisingly well! I just have a few for loops that are pulsing the speaker at different frequencies.

as far as those audio players go I’ve had hit or miss luck with them being reliable (those tiny ones) and sd cards can mess up. There’s also a delay of 1-3 seconds on power up while sd card inits and does file scan. Probly overkill for this project.

but the one I’ve liked the best is from Adafruit.

I’m using that one in my nixietube robot :
