Quicktime on an upgraded Mac SE

I recently put my @MacEffects Performer PDS 68030 Accelerator and am really digging the speed bump (if you haven't gotten one for your SE, go get one!). One challenge I came across was Quicktime support. Since the system now sports an 030 processor I was hopping to run some software that requires QT and installed version 1.6 on System 7.0.1 however I am get the X through the extension on startup as well as getting the message:

Quicktime installation failed because Quicktime cannot be used on this machine.

I'm thinking the extension is sniffing that the device is a Mac SE and shutting down support before it loads the Performer control panel which probably doesn't matter post boot anyway. Anyone have any thoughts or ideas to workaround this?

Likely due to lack of RAM because even version 1.0 required 4MB.
With or without the PerformerSE, you're capped to 4MB.

I thought that might be the limiting factor, as mentioned in this article about QT 1.0...

However, that same article goes on to say this:

"...a later version will add QuickTime support for monochrome, 68000-based Macintoshes. As a result, you, the developer, can take it for granted that QuickTime will be available on any Macintosh running your software."

What a surprise! That's crazy. I would never have believed that.

Thanks for chiming in folks. I put a fresh and lean version of 7.1 on the SE leaving plenty of ram left. As memory serves me, lots of computers had 4mb and could use quicktime to some degree, at least at fuzzy postage stamp levels so I don't think it's ram. I can't find anything excluding the SE or other 68000 Macs outright, most requirements are at the ram (specifying at least 4mb) and system level, but something in the extension is saying no with the X and message on startup. I wonder if there's a way to bypass it or make use a finder that identifies the machine as generic.

If anyone with an SE in any capacity has the quicktime extension loading properly with any version, I'd be very interested to hear about it!

1.5, 1.6, and 2.0. Works fine in Basilisk (I'm using a 030 rom because it doesn't have a 68000 one) but when I move the disk image over the SE it gives me the message every time.

According to what I am seeing on Macintosh Garden here, early versions of QT work under System 6.0.7. Have you tried installing QuickTime and also 32-bit QuickDraw to a System 6.0.7 System Folder?
