So I have been recapping my old macs and some gaming consoles following Bruce Rayne’s amazing videos ! For some time in soldering jobs I have been using :
Ceramic Fiber Insulation Blanket Paper Sheet for Wood Stoves/Inserts 610×300×1mm
to protect heat sensitive components around the components I am removing with the hot air . I cut it into 20mm (or thicker) strips and wind it around the components to hold it in place . I find it great as it has better thermal insulation properties than foil or capstan tape . About $5 a sheet on eBay . Just thought I would share that tip!
