Now that Flickr has gone back to giving us faithful users another punch in the nose with their 1024px photo resolution limitation, I thought it best to present some of my original SE/30 pics here, from back in 2006. That was the era before SCSI2SD and BlueSCSI — when everyone still used spinning platter hard drives and MacCon Ethernet. I was running up against the power output of my stock PSU at the time, so I crafted an interesting rig whereby I was able to jam in a secondary PSU to power only the hard drive. I even was able to add a fan on top of that PSU for added cooling. I no longer use that setup today, but it's still fun to see those old pics and ponder the days gone by.

Secondary PSU from the back.
I really had that thing bolted on well!
If you click the photo and zoom-in you can see the black rubber I glued onto the metal plate to ensure that no solder joints were ever going to touch the metal.

Some pics of the fan I used. It was mounted with plastic wire ties and scrap plastic. Looks quite precarious but it never fell out of position.

Here's how close the secondary PSU came to the CRT yoke. No issues with it that close either.

I wired-tied the flyback-cup-wire to the GND wire to keep it from touching the secondary PSU.

I drilled holes into the metal chassis so I could then use these stainless steel parts to keep the PSU bolted in place. The rig was rock solid stable. I still have the metal mount and the PSU, keeping them both in storage. If you look closely at the third photo (one at right) below, you can see I have a Turbo040 installed. (The tall PDS card it attaches to is the TS Adapter from ARTMIX Japan.)

I tapped AC from inside the stock PSU like this...

Fun days.
