The Apple 3.5” drive is missing the Omron ejector unit so when it is attached to the computer and powered on, the floppy drive starts up but the floppy drive shaft motor stays on constantly and a floppy disk can not be inserted.
I was wondering if this is because the ejector motor is missing so there are contact open that keep the drive head motor running?
Would there be a way to bypass or jump the contacts where the missing ejector unit 3 pin plug in cable is connected to the logic board so that the drive will operate ok and then I can manually eject the floppy disk (similar to what I can do on a similar Apple 3.5” Floppy drive that has the ejector unit is in place but has a gummy, broken gear)?
The Apple 3.5” Floppy drive I have, model (A9M0106), is an 800K external drive but I think this Omron ejector motor was also used in the Apple 800K and 1.44MB floppy drives in Macintosh SE and SE/30 computers. It’s the Auto Inject model with the manual eject lever on the right side.
Any ideas / comments appreciated.
