For the first time in my 10+ years of tinkering, collecting, and working generally with vintage Macs, I finally have a proper workbench space. Woohoo!
In the past I've resorted to doing cleaning, tinkering, and/or repairs (sometimes involving soldering, polishing, and other messy activities) in the living room, kitchen, etc. or on my "nice" display tables at the risk of marring them. I kept all my cleaning and soldering supplies, ultrasonic bath, testing equipment, tools, etc. on some random shelves and pulled them out as needed.
So it's been wonderful to actually have a dedicated space for these things now. So many times it's the case that you're midway through a project and determine a need to order parts or come back to it at a later time, so it's great to be able to just leave it out and not have to pack up shop immediately. My tools, supplies, equipment, and even the monitor/kbd/mouse testing setup finally have a permanent home (and the acrylic plaque was a gift from a fellow collector in Europe).
And, the present state - currently working on installing an SSD in my 14" iBook G3.
Sometime in the future I'd like to get a microscope for benchtop repairs/soldering, etc., and maybe a full bench computer for general use. But that is for a future time down the road.
I'm curious to know, what does your workbench / space look like? Any tools or other workspace items on your "wish list"?
