Question about ZIP drive eject function

I just got a ZIP 100 drive and I’m checking the unit before definitely keeping it but I don’t have any Mac to connect it now.

If I power the drive and I insert the disk it will not eject it. Is this normal? Should it eject the disk when the SCSI cable is not connected?

Disk should eject as long as there is power to the drive.

Thanks. Then it's clear mine is somehow defective.
Hopefully I can get a refund as the seller is a nice guy.
