This is a bit off-topic, but I wanted to follow up on what you said. It’s clear that WarpSE has been at a complete standstill for a very long time, but has the project been officially shelved?
I don't believe so, it's just life happens. People aren't duty bound to finish a passion project per a schedule - there are more important things going on for some people and time and money are in ever shorter supply.

So the other place has been down for what, 3 days now? Or something like that. :/
Still down. Some networking issue, but the data on the servers appear to be intact.

So get the heck off Discord! Maybe use it as texting and the like. Post information on forums swept by the Archive or all is lost, no?
I've been on IRC, IM, Discord for 30+ years now. I never get this criticism. By definition chat is ephemeral - I don't see anyone in our Discord posting anything that's not hosted on TD/GitHub/elsewhere. There's a lot of people who didn't grow up with forums and don't see the need. There's a lot of people who just like to chat with people. I split my time between both and don't feel like anyone is missing out by being on one or the other or both. People enjoy interacting with other people in the hobby how they want, and that's fine by me.

What we can't control: I just want to add that a good focus is to figure out what you can control, what you can impact, and what you have no control over. Discord, etc. exists and people use it. Can't control the first part. MAYBE our actions can impact whether people prefer to use it or not. But it is a different experience that some prefer as has been mentioned. And when/if 68kMLA gets back up and running, can't control that either. We can impact where folks go by making this place vibrant.

What we can control: To make this place more vibrant, if that is a person's desire, I would say that just making sure people's questions get answered or they at least get gently steered to FAQ's if that covers their question, that people post about their engagement with this hobby here, etc.

Example: Not calling anyone out, but I posted a question that has received crickets. Pretty simple dumb question I guess. But something that might be good in the Vintage Apple 101 section, which was what sort of basic tools does one need to mess around with this stuff? As I said earlier, I am that guy that has barely opened his computer to put in more RAM or some kind of communication/networking card, and actually repairing stuff is new. to me. There may be others seeking info on how to get into the hobby. No one replied so I just figured it out and ordered some stuff based off of YouTube research. I will post what I purchased in my thread as a starting point in the Soldering and Repair section, as I didn't see another place to put the thread. Anyhow, responses to things like that might be good and helpful to grow the place, and again, not complaining or calling anyone out, just putting something in the suggestion box.

How hard is it to find reliable web hosting? I swear there’s been something like this with every provider they have used. I’ve never had a problem like this while running my own website. Some luck.
In fairness - and people who know my opinion know my opinion - in the past I've had to sometimes eat substantial downtime on systems I cared about because upstreams wouldn't do their job. Floodgap was down for six weeks once when I moved houses. It took me threatening legal action and a complaint to the CPUC to get the do-nothing company to release me from the contract I wasn't paying them for and they weren't working on.

There have been legitimate instances of people that have come to our discord that have no idea we had a forum, either, mostly because they're not the sort of people that 'do' forums...
This was my thought too - the water flows both ways here. Considering how popular Discord is in 2026 and in regards to promoting an old format like forums like it’s still 1998, Discord is a must have tool to bring visibility to that format with the very age demographic of would be future tinkerers who use platforms like discord on the daily and who did not grow up with forums.

I almost completely stopped using Discord years ago (including the TD discord) but I do see incredible value in it especially for the age demographics where Discord and the like are their generational equivalent of prior generations forums, aim, ts, irc etc. and subsequent introduction to it.

BTW we need a “100%” Mac emoji LOL - like a PowerBook 100. :D

I worded my post badly right at the start. The rest of the sentence is in agreement with you:
"So get the heck off Discord! Maybe use it as texting and the like. Post information on forums swept by the Archive or all is lost, no?"

Agree wholeheartedly about using discord/whatever as chat.

- I don't see anyone in our Discord posting anything that's not hosted on TD/GitHub/elsewhere.
So glad to hear that, thanks for the clarification. You've put my mind at ease. Does the Internet Archive sweep up what's on "GitHub/elsewhere?"

There's a lot of people who didn't grow up with forums and don't see the need. There's a lot of people who just like to chat with people. I split my time between both and don't feel like anyone is missing out by being on one or the other or both. Sorry for what was meant as a suggestion about posting info out in the open, not as a criticism of of chat in general.

Methinks she’s not long for this world. I hope I’m wrong. Would be nice if the current admin would do the right thing and pass the torch to someone with the proper acumen and passion to run the 68kmla.

I would settle for them creating a static archive and handing that off to someone to host as a forum frozen in time that remains searchable.

Too much non-replicated info on there for it to be lost to time.

That's exactly what happened with one of the projects that I started on a forum that broke off from the MLA over some serious differences way back. I picked up the challenge of gamba's abandoned PowerCache adapter project there.

Took it back over to MLA when that forum*** closed up shop. @Bolle and @joethezombie jumped right into the fray when I posted it and mostly in a DM SkunkWorks thread the three of us came up with @Bolle's Powercache Adapter variants based on the DiiMO adapter. They did the real work. ;)

I told Bolle he was gonna be famous and I wanted his first autograph on a bare board. So much for "idea projects!"

Got autographs #1 AND #2. 😁

*** What was the name of that deceased forum guys?
That would be ThinkClassic, run by LCGuy.
