I've been trying to connect to my NAS on my MacBook. It's running 10.6.3. When I try to connect to the samba share, it says "The operation can't be completed because the original item can't be found." I tried to add a "signing required if required" parameter to the smb.conf file but it doesn't seem to change anything.

I've been trying to get this to work on my PowerBook G4 as well, and, under Tiger, I can browse the share for a few seconds before the whole system hangs.

I'm using TrueNAS 25.10 on my NAS. If you've got any ideas please tell me.

Thanks!

Out of the box, Samba disables SMB1 and older login encryption protocols for security reasons. You need the parameter server min protocol = NT1 in your smb.conf [global].

I did so on the Mac with no difference. Same for the NAS, as I've got old XP devices I use with it at times.

Maybe Mac OS doesn't like something about the size of the share? I noticed on Tiger (the only version that half-works) it only shows 4TB, even though I have 14TB in the NAS:

Tiger only supports up to 2.2T so while it might see a larger drive, it’s going to have problems accessing it. I have a 2T share for my old PPC macs and they see & connect to it without issue.

In regards to Snow Leopard looks like you already enabled legacy smb1 so that’s set.

1.) Is TrueNAS read/write acc permissions set to allow access?

2.) very basic but just to be sure: connect through “connect to server” (what I use) in task bar. Then enter your true nas ip like smb://xxx.xxx.x.xxx .

3.) If macOS seems stuck, you can force macOS to refresh its network shares in Terminal by running killall sharingd
