Hardware/software you have that no one talks about.

I have never heard of this. I'm continually fascinate by computers that used strange and different CPU arcitectures. I imagine there were a ton in the sub 10mhz days, but it's still wild. What can you do with this thing these days? This reminds me of something I had, a PreComputer1000. It had...

Hardware/software you have that no one talks about.

I occasionally search Youtube for specific hardware or software and see if anyone has done a video about them, and even after all of these years, the answer is still No. At times, someone will make a video about something I never could have imagined. Do you have a piece of hardware that hasn't...

    VCFMW 2026 Should Be Sweet!

Hopefully I'll be there on Saturday instead of late Sunday. I got a 486 SX25 with one of those funny Pentium Overdrive sockets, so that was a win. Hopefully this year I can get something cool or useful.

    Computer names.

I've never seen or heard of this, and the only downside is it can't sleep? That is wild. Love Macs Fan Control, Full Blast can vent a system out in minutes. In addition, I love a Quadra 605 with then resistor overclock called LCIV+ because reasons. I also have a Performa 520 that I did a...

    Computer names.

I had no idea that your icon was a G4 cube, that is insanely cool. Also, a Xeon in a 2011 iMac? I have never heard of this, that also sounds insanely cool. How's the heat on that thing? My introduction to the Salamanders was some dudes on tricycles burning me off of the board. The Tau empire...

    Computer names.

Everyone names their computers, I'm sure everyone also has a lot of computers. They're like pets in a way, sometimes their name is just what's on the faceplate, sometimes it's named after a characteristic of the machine that was seen later. So, what are some of the names of your favorite or...

    Released — MacDoom for SE/30

I have an LCII with a 68040, I'd love to try this but I'm sure the low RAM limit blows a hole in that. Would using the shareware WAD theoretically lower this requirement?

[Discussion] Use of AI/LLM in the retro community

I've been wanting to upgrade my computer for almost 3 years now. Money issues and rising prices have made this a non-option as of late. I even have my case picked out and have been sitting on it for years, a Silverstone FLP01. I can't even move the current guts from one case to the other, due to...

    MARCHintosh 2026 Projects

I've managed to sync an old Cybiko to an old Mac using a virtual machine. I'm surprised this actually worked. Windows XP running on a 1Ghz G4 is a dreadful experience, but it eventually worked. I used an old USB-to-Serial cable that used a prolific chip, which was kinda hard to track a driver...

[Discussion] Use of AI/LLM in the retro community

I understand the hate for AI, but this isn't a huge hobby, and the hardware is only getting older and more scarce. Better to make something while there's still machines to use it on.

Vintage Compact Macs in TV & Movies

The X-Files has a ton of Macs in it. I think there's an SE/30 and a purple iMac somewhere, a G4 cube too.

What did you do to your computer today?

I connected to the UT99 server. There's a bit of lag if you're in the USA, and I got pwned by a bot. 9/10, great experience, had a blast.

    MARCHintosh 2026 Projects

Optical drive removed, fans installed, There was even some space to put a little heatsink on top of the heat pipes, for extra surface area and cooling, in the center. It runs much more comfortably, at least I feel better about it. When It had no optical drive and just an empty space, I'd stick...

Beige PowerPC G3 - IDE HardDrive Replacment?

I replaced mine with a 120Gb drive I got off of EBay, I imagine one of those IDE to SD card solutions could work too. If you want to, you can also use the internal SCSI connection and install a "BlueSCSI" or "SCSI2SD" depending on what you want to try.
