    MARCHintosh 2026 Projects

Optical drive removed, fans installed, There was even some space to put a little heatsink on top of the heat pipes, for extra surface area and cooling, in the center. It runs much more comfortably, at least I feel better about it. When It had no optical drive and just an empty space, I'd stick...

Beige PowerPC G3 - IDE HardDrive Replacment?

I replaced mine with a 120Gb drive I got off of EBay, I imagine one of those IDE to SD card solutions could work too. If you want to, you can also use the internal SCSI connection and install a "BlueSCSI" or "SCSI2SD" depending on what you want to try.

Just bragging about my G4 iMac G3.

Good lord, how is the heat on this thing?

    MARCHintosh 2026 Projects

The iMac G3 is likely going to sit forever, the speakers are blown and the CRT is showing its age. After a while of running, black starts to turn red, and the more black is displayed on the screen, the deeper the red goes. The internets say it's a worn out tube, I have a guy I can call about...

    MARCHintosh 2026 Projects

I think I'm going to make my marchintosh project my recently acquired G3 iMac. It needs new speaker cones, and I want to install an exhaust fan in it somehow. Speaker cones might be tricky to find, and the exhaust fan might also. I want the fan to pull air out of the top, but if it's too close...

G4 iMac and its intense heat. A brainstorm.

I could try to take it apart and put it back together, but for me it doesn't feel like the metal inner shell is absorbing enough heat. I don't have the shielding in place on the bottom of the optical drive, so I can poke my finger into the optical drive door and physically tough the CPU, and...

G4 iMac and its intense heat. A brainstorm.

I'm trying to think of a way to increase the cooling power inside a G4 iMac. It's cramped inside, the CPU and GPU are in strange places, and they run incredibly hot even with their strange method of cooling by sinking heat into its metal dome chassis. The processor is on the top of the logic...

What did you do to your computer today?

I have a website in my house that's hosted of a Raspberry Pi. All I do with it is host pictures and files and a journal old computer things I do. I'm not cool enough to do HTML by hand so I use an old copy of Dreamweaver. I also didn't make the framework of the site myself, I took the MSN site...

What did you do to your computer today?

LORD GABRIEL! Love that game, even if the engine is weird.

What did you do to your computer today?

I was looking inside of my G3 iMac, looking to see if there was a place to put a fan. Ideally it'd be up top where the monitor is, blowing air up and out of the case, but I'm afraid of magnetic stuff getting with the tube, because it's right there. The bottom isn't a great idea because there's...

2026 PowerPC Challenge, is it happening?

The WHIZZER, it was right in my face the whole time! That's the name of this iMac now. Absolutely. More fun, and less vulgar than the alternative.

    6500 Heatsink Upgrade Question

I actually don't know. I didn't put a meter to the pins, but I vaguely remember plugging in a fan into the pins on mine, and no combination I tried made the fan spin up. I could be mistaken though. I don't think Macs had dynamic fan control until way later.

    6500 Heatsink Upgrade Question

I have a Commslot 2 Ethernet card in mine, so it's off to the side. The heat in my machine was a nightmare to manage, but I have it stable. Mine is in a 6360 case, so it's smaller and a bit of a nightmare,G3 CPU card, Voodoo 2 GPU, the box is absolutely stuffed but I managed. A godsend are those...
