Modding the Kodak Reels 8mm Film Digitizer (Firmware Hack)

Since firmware changes aren't helping your button issue, it might be time to power down the unit, get out a screwdriver and open it up. But only if you feel comfortable doing that, of course. There's a chance that you have a poor connection involving the cable(s) that connect the button assembly...

I noticed your model number is RODREELSEU. Mine (in US) is just RODREELS without the EU. Is your unit a European one? If so, maybe that is the reason the firmware isn't working 100%. If you go way back to the first posts of this thread, I think the original Kodak versions of firmware were...

AFAIK Steve's lookup tool was copied from the Kodak tool and is 2 years old so it doesn't have all the recent serial numbers. I would try earlier Firmware B versions, or even C versions. It appears from discussions on here that even if you try to install the wrong version, you won't completely...

The cover is held in place by 6 tabs that click into slots in the face of the scanner. To get it off from the front, push up on the bottom of the cover to bend it and release the two bottom tabs. Rotate up carefully to release the side tabs, then fully remove it from the scanner. See pictures.

My reading (perhaps incorrectly) of his modifications are that he drilled/filed/shaped the original model. He said the STL needed to be modified, but didn't say that HE modified it. So get the drill bits and files out, campers!

People have reported that flashing the wrong version will not harm the unit. Since your serial starts with "C", and the latest units start with "H", I'd start with version "A" and see if that works for you. If not, go to version "B", then "C". OdanO's Post #496 has all 3 versions of 6.6...

Sure, but what makes the stepper motor stop at a particular position? The pin moving into the sensor and breaking the infrared beam maybe? Perhaps test this by adding some black electrical tape (or something that wouldn't allow infrared to pass through it) to the end of the pin to make it a...

Looks like you'll have to get creative. At this point, I'd remove the plastic flag/pin, drill out the holes in the bracket slightly oversize, enough to allow adjustment. Put it back together with some small lock washers under the screws. Adjust flag/pin right or left as needed. I hope there are...

Kodiak - I hope I have an easy fix for you. It might be parallax in the photo, but your gray flag seems attached off center to the metal bracket. My flag is perfectly centered. I think moving the flag would also move the 'position' signal timing, and might fix your issue. Looked like 2 screws...

I have a Rev "C" unit. I took a pic of the board/chip and made some voltage measurements for you. Hopefully it will help you find the chip or a compatible one to repair your scanner.

Looks like a speaker icon to me. Only two pads. LS1 = Loud Speaker 1 maybe??

For a Serial starting with K312, I believe you need firmware "C", not "B". That worked for me.

I'm using the 5.8 version right now, and the file sizes for 3" - 50 foot reels is coming in just under 700MB per reel. I realize the B firmware isn't available in version 5.8 (yet ;-) ), but it should give you some indication of what to expect.

I wonder if the variability is because of the sensor in the attached picture. The flag on the moving arm alternately covers and uncovers the sensor at both extremes of its movement. This might be what is providing the "I'm home, take the shot" digital signal to the processor when the arm has...

Hard to be sure from looking at the vids, but it doesn't look like you have the extra room in the shuttle mechanism to put a larger cam in there. You might be able to grind away some metal on the left of the shuttle to give you the extra room you need. It looks like they are only using the...
