I got my JLC-printed, carbon-fiber reinforced 60mm SE & SE/30 Analog Board FAN MOUNT installed, and here's how it looks:

tempImageaP8Ry2.png tempImagekP26kn.png

tempImageUsUclS.png tempImageHuQfdd.png

I think @alxlab intended for this mount to not require use of nuts on the bolts (machine screws), but if you insert and remove screws a few times, I think that might wear down the hole, so I decided to add nuts just to be safe. I can later add some hot glue to ensure that vibration over time won't cause the nuts to loosen. Hot glue is a more easily removable choice to secure the bolts than super glue, which is more permanent.

Adding the nuts near the protruding fan mount was kind of hard because you can't screw on the nuts due to the close proximity of the bolt hole. You have to hold the nut in place (perfectly flat) and then screw in the bolt, which is a bit tricky but not impossible.

I used my own "M3" 3.0mm diameter machine screws and some I cut down the length on some. Having your own bolts is important because when you use this fan mount, you probably either don't have access to the stock one, or you want to repurpose it, which means you don't have the mounting bolts for that.

Note the SE & SE/30 STOCK MACHINE SCREW SIZES:
  • For Mounting Metal Bracket to Analog Board:
    > Shaft Diameter = 2.92mm
    > Shaft Length = 9.42mm
    > "Pan" Head Width = 5.3mm
    > Washer width = 6.4mm

  • For Mounting Fan to Metal Bracket:
    > Shaft Diameter = 2.92mm
    > Shaft Length = 29.7mm
    > "Pan" Head Width = 5.3mm
    > Washer width = 6.4mm
WHAT TO BUY
M3 10mm bolt on Amazon
M3 35mm bolt on Amazon (5mm longer than stock bolt to ensure nut will fit on it)
Nuts & Washers on Amazon

One huge benefit of this carbon fiber mount versus the metal stock mount is vibration damping. I was getting some major vibrations that were extremely audible and annoying with the back housing removed and when using the stock metal fan mount on this dummy analog board that comes with the LCD Retrofit Kit by @zigzagjoe. But after swapping out the metal mount for this carbon fiber version, all audible vibration sounds ceased entirely. It was pretty shocking, and in a good way. Of course, when the housing is on, it doesn't matter. But I often have the case-back off to work on the machine. The Carbon Fiber Mount is awesome. Could be that PLA and other filaments are too because they are plastic and not metal, and therefore will transfer vibrations less than the metal.

My PSU in this Mac is the SEASONIC I installed many years ago and it has a fan inside that kicks on after a while. So I think the combination of the two fans was causing audible vibrations with the metal fan mount. That isn't something that will impact most people who have the stock PSU (which has no fan). Even so, the benefits are what they are, and I am quite pleased.

Another benefit is there are no gaps around the fan. The mount is nicely form=fitting, unlike the stock metal mount. Also, you can only mount the fan with 2 bolts when using the metal mount, but with this 3D printed version, you can use up to 4. I choose to use 3 bolts to mount the fan, and of course I used 4 to keep the mount affixed to the analog board.

Kudos to @alxlab for this nice STL file, and kudos to JLC for doing a nice printing job on it!

Is anyone else waiting for the iMac G3 Bezels to become available (for folks who weren't in on the Kickstarter)? I've got a Blueberry I'd love to restore but don't want it to crack into two pieces before I have a bezel on hand... :)

First boot with the case buttoned up! Wow, she looks so good!

Thanks, @wottle for sending the knob. I think it makes a difference. I did not realize it would be so visible!

I have a few BlueSCSI devices but this is my first 2.0, so looking forward to WiFi. I still can’t believe we have such smart people to make the classic OS app to transfer files from the SD card, and WiFi. . . The wonders never cease!

SE & SE/30 Drive Bracket Aficionados,

I installed my MacSD (created by @YMK ) into my SE/30's stock metal bracket as shown below (my finger is touching it), but I hate those brackets because they cover the main wiring harness connector and make it a huge PITA to remove that connector!

tempImageTgQmHa.png

My Mac SD has its own 3D printed bracket, but that is only used to offer screw holes in the same place a normal 3.5" HDD would have. It subsequently needs to be mounted into a regular drive bracket.

Can any of you recommend a 3D Printable DRIVE BRACKET for the SE & SE/30 that is much SHORTER than the stock metal bracket and therefore will NOT cover the main wiring harness motherboard connector?

The DRIVE BRACKET must be designed to be LOW PROFILE so that it doesn't raise up any mounted drive any taller than a a normal 3.5" drive would be, because as you can see from my photo above, there are times when I have a stack of PDS cards and one card shoots out the side and hovers above the drive bay. (In my photo, you are seeing the 30video PDS graphics card by @zigzagjoe fitted into the top slot of the Synchr030/S by @YMK.)

I need MacSD compatibility, but it would be best if BlueSCSI could be accommodated as well. Honestly, I want to swap out all my metal brackets in my SE & SE/30 machines for something shorter and less bothersome. And I want the bracket to be mountable ABOVE the floppy drive, only because that location doesn't obstruct PDS cards, nor would it bother anything like a MacConn Ethernet bracket that would use the rear housing's port on back.

Thank you!

@wottle
Thank you for replying, but I was afraid of that. So many brackets use that expansion port, but that doesn't work for a Mac SD, and my middle name is "PDSCARD" so I have the need to mount it in a bracket directly above the floppy drive.

I could just hack off the back end of the stock metal brackets, but I honestly don't want to do all that work, especially because it destroys a vintage part. I'm kind of against that. So a 3D printable solution is best.

Also, JLC sent me a limited time discount last night, so I am eager to fire off another order...

This is one thing I have not modeled. I always took the lazy route. I use ZuluSCSIs and got them with a 3D printed 3.5“ bracket. I then velcro these brackets onto the top of the metal floppy enclosure. Makes it easy to remove them without screwing/unscrewing a metal HD bracket. Avoids the hassle of the large HD bracket and also allows you to easily remove the Zulu/Blue SCSI to work on something and then reattach it.

But I also don’t use a clear case. So you guys probably want something more presentable :)

My case is matte white :)

OK, so a matte white case looks pretty sweet, but thanks to your profile link, I am THRILLED to find your model of a PB5300 rear port cover!

I used to search for this model once in a while but it has been a few months. Thanks for creating that. I can’t wait to try it!

Is that 3D printed? I feel like it's painted, but then I also am trying to figure out what's going on with the bevel on the bottom lip of the floppy opening!

@wottle I noticed the bevel too. Hmmm. Until @jmacz shares the details we are left to speculate. I also see there is a crt/flat panel bezel adaptor—so pretty sure this is some kind of video display conversion as well, since that HDD icon is definitely dark blue!

Whether a painted stock case or 3D printed, I took note of the bottom "lip" of the floppy slot having been perfectly filed down at an angle...

@jmacz we need full resolution pics! :p

This is one thing I have not modeled.
That one thing being a 3D printable DRIVE BAY for any 3.5" drive, be that spinning platter type, MacSD, BlueSCSI, or otherwise, yet much SHORTER than the stock metal drive bracket so the bracket NEVER hovers over the main wiring harness connector on the motherboard.

I posted on FaceBook and actually got a single answer pretty quickly yesterday...

But so far, no one else has replied, most likely because such an STL file doesn't exist. As such, whoever creates the aforementioned bracket would get a lot of digital "street cred" for it. (That's my not-so-subtle way of begging. :giggle: :censored:) Besides, wouldn't such a drive bracket look really cool with the jmacz logo embedded in it?
