PowerBook 165 replacement display ribbon cable

Got the replacement cable, and it seems to fit. Does the ferrite bead need to be wrapped around the new cable as well? I'm now having issues getting the lid re-installed. The left hinge screw goes in perfectly fine, but the right screw won't even reach the boss in the lid.

PowerBook 165 replacement display ribbon cable

I'm frustrated. 😤 Finally have everything to bring my PowerBook 165 back to life: Recapped LCD and inverter board, new power supply, J-B Welded hinge screw posts on the lid (plus two spare 3D-printed post assemblies, just in case.) I decided to spend this morning trying to put it all back...

    Red Ryder questions, unpacking software

Sorry to again resurrect this thread, but have been having a slight Zmodem transfer problem for serial transfers between my SE and modern Mac mini. I'll occasionally have a transfer abort because of "Data CRC error" and "Hdr CRC error" in ZTerm. While I've had transfers work fine at 57600 baud...

PowerBook 165 restoration: Tips for getting started?

I finally got the LCD and inverter board removed from the PowerBook. It actually came apart easier than I was expecting, thankfully. I was told I shouldn't need the inverter board recapped since it uses polymer caps. So is the LCD the only thing I really need to send off to be recapped? I'll be...

PowerBook 165 restoration: Tips for getting started?

Sorry for the delayed response. This helps a ton! I've never 3D printed anything before, so forgive me if this is a dumb question, but what "configuration" should I go with for the hinge supports? Is the default FFF technology with 17% infill, > 0.2 mm layer thickness in gray ABS OK? Or should I...

PowerBook 165 restoration: Tips for getting started?

Sorry to resurrect this post... hoping to finally get started on this project. First, on the 3D-printed hinge: Is there anyone with a 3D printer I can buy a made part from? I unfortunately don't have access to a printer. The local school has one, but I'm not sure if they'd let me print it...

Changed Serial to ASCII. Would that cause the file to not go through?

    Red Ryder questions, unpacking software

Sorry about reviving this thread, but I had another serial-related issue arise and wasn't sure about creating an entirely new thread for possibly a simple issue. Today I tried to transfer a (RTF) file from my Classic to my M1 Mac mini using ZTerm, but it failed. Until now I really haven't had...

    That's what I thought, just wasn't 100% certain.

    Red Ryder questions, unpacking software

What if software and other files from the archive can't fit on a single 800K disk image? Hopefully when I get the Classic functional again I can just un-stuff them on there if needed, as I have System 7 installed on it and *should* be able to run newer versions of StuffIt Expander/Deluxe. I'm...

    Red Ryder questions, unpacking software

For posterity, a more public update: With some help from @Byte Knight via CQ II running on ZTerm, I finally figured out the download issue somewhat. Zmodem worked perfectly fine once I slowed the rate to 9600. I was told I can go faster with hardware handshake enabled, but I completely forgot...

    Red Ryder questions, unpacking software

Turns out this was the case... I had to de-select "Use colors" under Settings > Color Preferences. After doing that CQ II looks great... almost like it does in Kermit, but some of the graphics are actually complete. I might do a video at some point showing the differences. Also 57.6K seems to...

    Red Ryder questions, unpacking software

Thanks for the ZIP file. It allowed me to finally get ZTerm running on the SE. I'm probably going to create a separate thread in the "Emulation" category for this, but Basilisk II for some reason refuses to run on my M1 Mac mini. I've had BII running perfectly fine in the past on multiple Intel...

    Red Ryder questions, unpacking software

No problem. I've noticed CQ II looks different in QL II than Kermit... I'll try to get some "screenshots" when I have the modem connected again. I tried finding a StuffIt Expander that would successfully un-stuff the ZTerm SIT, but no luck. I thought the disk images for StuffIt Deluxe 4.0 would...

I've tried calling up the Ymodem transfer before pressing enter and still nothing... it just sits there and does nothing.

The modem has software flow control enabled, and instructions say to have XON/XOFF enabled.

    Red Ryder questions, unpacking software

I made sure "Handle telnet" was turned off. (The AT command is ATNET0, and I made sure it was unchecked in the control panel. QLII Fax is available on Macintosh Garden: https://macintoshgarden.org/apps/quick-link-ii-fax Unfortunately this SE can't run System 7 due to the Mobius '030...

    Red Ryder questions, unpacking software

The Ymodem utility in QLII and Red Ryder worked just fine when connected to my Mac mini directly, so I'm leaning more towards something with the modem. TheOldNet modem has an internal file storage (2 MB, so not huge, but usable for small file transfers) that I haven't been able to download files...

    Red Ryder questions, unpacking software

I've finally done some more tinkering with this, and still haven't figured it out. CQ II gives me three options for downloading the file — Ymodem, Ymodem-G and Zmodem. Since I still haven't got Red Ryder to work (outside transferring files via direct serial connection with my Mac mini), and QL...
