Archiving CD images using Toast 3 (1997)

Hey, I wrote the linked post. Toast copies the entire CD when done as described - completely, byte for byte including "hidden" data (I'm not sure what you mean by that, but if it is on the disk, it is getting copied). The one differences I was talking about is where Toast modifies part of the...

    Software-only OVERCLOCK for LC475, LC575, Quadra 605

Really? The code was only released this month. Have you been doing your own hacks? Could you share your code? The control panel is probably 7.5 to 8.1 (and later with a PPC upgrade). I wrote the CP in RealBasic, so I suspect it wont run in 7.1 (probably will with Finder 7.1.3 installed in 7.1...

PowerCache Card in IIci -- Why So Slow?

No need to use an archive, Daystar still have the files for download on their site : https://daystartechnology.com/files/d_software_download1_xeemdfzgntze6rvusnn52z.html

Purchased a 400mhz G3 ZIFF Upgrade CPU but after installation G3 Still reports 266Mhz

A B&W. Well, it wasn't the PSU. There seems to be some sort of loose connection in the machine somewhere and sometimes it refuses to power on. Or possibly the caps are marginal. It seems to be more reliable with the door open. I'll have to investigate. An ATX conversion for the beige isn't...

PowerCache Card in IIci -- Why So Slow?

Interesting, I figure, same as the IIfx vs the IIci, the benchmark must completely fit within the cache because the RAM and system bus is a different speed on all of these machines.

PowerCache Card in IIci -- Why So Slow?

One more reply sorry about this, I've been playing with various benchmark software to see if the IIci scores differently on any of them out of curiosity - my copy of MacBench Speedometer 4 didn't have a score for a IIfx, so I ran a copy of 3.06. Here you can seem my 50MHz IIci vs the IIfx, and...

PowerCache Card in IIci -- Why So Slow?

Further to the above, lowendmac has a speedometer 4 score for the IIfx CPU of 0.71. My IIci (using a Nubus video card and a 50MHz PowerCache) scores 0.865 for CPU, PR : 0.921. I think some of the issue here is that the IIfx CPU scores are being assumed to be higher than they are. The PowerCache...

Purchased a 400mhz G3 ZIFF Upgrade CPU but after installation G3 Still reports 266Mhz

Sadly my PSU gave up today. Sigh. I'm having a lot of trouble with power supplies these days.

PowerCache Card in IIci -- Why So Slow?

@This Does Not Compute I just watched your video and it surprised me. I have the older vanilla PowerCache, and get the following performance in my IIci :

Purchased a 400mhz G3 ZIFF Upgrade CPU but after installation G3 Still reports 266Mhz

I believe they used to bin by batch and location on the wafer (quality varies between the middle and edge of a wafer?), and only test a limited subset. Combined with, as you mention, if the 25MHz part was significantly outselling the 33MHz part, there is a chance that they would ship higher...

Purchased a 400mhz G3 ZIFF Upgrade CPU but after installation G3 Still reports 266Mhz

Its something that has been done by a fair few manufacturers over the years. DayStar Turbo 040 upgrades sometimes came with HRC processors, or even regular ones, clocked higher than the printed value. Apple themselves produced LC IIIs with 16MHz processors running at 25, and LC III+s with 25MHz...

Purchased a 400mhz G3 ZIFF Upgrade CPU but after installation G3 Still reports 266Mhz

Here are the jumper settings for two speeds for the card you have. I've labelled pin 1 (which is marked on the board) and the front of the machine. You'll need to remove the tamper seal sticker (Oh no! The Warranty! That expired decades ago! 😆), then remove the block. Sometimes you can manage...

Purchased a 400mhz G3 ZIFF Upgrade CPU but after installation G3 Still reports 266Mhz

Hey R5D4, I have been messing about with similar stuff today and yesterday. I got a new to me Blue and White G3, the B&W and Beige machines are quite similar. Like has been mentioned the ZIF board doesn't carry over the processor speed, its set by the logic board jumpers (except for some cards...

    Centris 650 Upgrades

Passive (or active) termination wouldn't be difficult to add on board. https://flylib.com/books/4/55/1/html/2/images/07fig20.jpg

    Centris 650 Upgrades

@fehervaria @Kai Robinson The PCB isn't my design, so I don't have the design files, but it is entirely an adapter, not even any passives. It wouldn't take long to draw one up from the pinouts of the two connectors. Most of my drives have an integrated terminator, so I just use that.

PCB? :) The solution is wonderfully more simple than you're expecting. SCSI++ https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/5-Pack-Centronics-50-Pin-IDC-Type-Female-CN50-Crimp-Connector-for-Ribbon-Cable-/391815176412...

The Centronics adapter probably makes more sense as not everybody has Zip drive system->system SCSI leads knocking about :)

    Centris 650 Upgrades

I can't remember where I got it, but I also have one with a male IDC connector so I can plug a ribbon cable into it. I also made my own centronics to IDC adapter so I could make my own enclosure ;)
