Floppy drive Sony MP-F51W-23 upper head doesn't touch the disk

Looking at an old photo of the motherboard, the crack seems to have been there before. I can't find at the moment any photo of the CRT Yoke board but if the smell is on this board, should I change the capacitors? Note that I have a spare Mac SE (not 30) which is due to be repaired. Can I switch...

Floppy drive Sony MP-F51W-23 upper head doesn't touch the disk

@JDW I followed the tutorial which went well until I connected the floppy drive to my Mac SE 30. It made a strange noise so I unplugged the drive as it wasn't properly mounted. The issue is that I smelt some burn around the Mac power supply or on the little card plugged at the back of the CRT...

    SmartPortSD - lets build it!

I got confirmation that the VGA mini card is not compatible. I think I will give it a try with the RGB to SCART cable to test on a TV, and then see if a SCART to VGA o HDMI would work. I got the following reference link about using the SCART cable...

    SmartPortSD - lets build it!

I found this thread that confirms it's not supported: https://github.com/markadev/AppleII-VGA/discussions/22 Someone replied about a similar project but it doesn't seem to support the 2GS either: https://github.com/jtflanagan/AppleTini/tree/main

    SmartPortSD - lets build it!

Very interesting, thank you for the link. I wonder if the VGA card (https://en.infinityproducts.co.jp/product-page/a-vga-mini-card) is compatible with the 2GS.

    SmartPortSD - lets build it!

I'm tempted to get the Floppy Emu. About the color monitor support I looked at this link: https://www.apple2faq.com/apple2faq/apple-iigs-modern-video-options/ and the cheapest + available option seems to be an RGB to SCART cable (+ SCART to VGA converter): https://www.ebay.fr/itm/375804659870

    SmartPortSD - lets build it!

Interesting thread as I'm about to get an apple ii gs with no HD or floppy drive. What is the most cost efficient board to run floppy and hard disks (or HD only) from an SD (or other card) ? The SmartPortSD looks very interesting, and I saw I can buy the PCS online. However links to the...

    Restoring a Mac SE 5011

Hi, I purchased a Mac SE 5011 as I needed to replace the floppy drive in my Mac SE/30. I'm trying to figure out if this Mac SE can be restored. The motherboard (820-0250) is in a fairly bad state since the battery leaked. I removed it and cleaned the board. It seems to be ok now overall. When I...

Floppy drive Sony MP-F51W-23 upper head doesn't touch the disk

Hi, I found a replacement floppy drive for my Mac SE 30. It's a Sony MP-F51W-23 (MFD-51W-03) on the side that I took from a dead Mac. Using the cable with the red stripe, the drive loads and ejects disks ok but all disks are unreadable. I noticed the upper head didn't touch the floppy disk...

Radius DB9 64KHz Full Page Display on a Mac SE

Hi, I just bought a Mac SE M5011 to restore which has a Radius Full Page Display 64KHz with a 9 pins port at the back: I found this software for Mac SE: https://macintoshgarden.org/apps/radius-system-software-v25, and DB9 to VGA converters online but I wonder if this will work on a new screen...

    BlueSCSI v2 multi boot?

I installed System Picker and I use a single partition HD0 on which I copied the System Folder from 7.0.1 and 6.0.5 partitions using VMac. Running System Picker, it scans all System folders and let me reboot with a different Mac OS. It works well except 2 issues: 1. The desktop content from HD0...

    BlueSCSI v2 multi boot?

Thanks for the information. I will try the System Picker. Should I install the 3 OSes on the same disk image e.g. HD0 using VMac, or use separate disk images (all named HDO....hda ?)

    Advice on Mac SE/30 RAM

Thanks for the link, I managed to download the patch. What are the risks of running OS8 on an SE/30 ? Performance issues, crashes even with 20, 32 or more RAM ? I will give it a go as it sounds fun, yet hoping it could be a stable replacement of 7.5 to use the Mac.
