What ROM version are you using? I'm not sure if the GW cards need an upgrade to be used with a ROM 3 machine, like the Applied Engineering cards do. If they do, and you're using a ROM 3 (sounds like you may be using a ROM 01 or 00 machine), that might cause the issues you're noticing. My...

Yeah, it died in 2019 or so. LCGuy (the admin over there) was mostly running it out of his own pocket and offered it up to the rest of the forum, but no one else came forward to take it over. So, it went away.

Early MDD machines were FW400. Later versions were FW800, until the single 1.25GHz model came out, using the older board.

As @cjsebes said, it'll be pretty limited for me. I do use my G4 as a bridge machine between the MBP and my older Macs and sometimes do access sites like the Macintosh Garden, etc, directly, so it's not like the computer sits on the filing cabinet next to my desk, collecting dust.

Possibly. It may be best to remove the bezel, then do what @BPearce (RedJacketPress) suggests. Or, if the serial number doesn't have to match, find a dead 128 or 512 with a decent bezel that has a good badge. Swap that on, and call it good.

As @eric says, an SE can run 7.5.x, but it's too slow and uses too much RAM. I used to have an SE SuperDrive machine that dual booted into both 6.0.8 and 7.5.1. Used the 7.5.1 system folder once during the whole time I owned it. 7.0, 7.0.1, and regular System 7.1 are tolerable on an SE. But...

Before doing anything, first try holding down the "C" key to boot from the optical drive. If that doesn't work, then, try holding down the mouse button at boot. That should, hopefully, cause the disc to be ejected. If all else fails, and you have a USB 3.5" IDE hard drive enclosure handy...
