What I've received as of late...

Earlier beige Mac stuff, while I played around with 7-8 and MacPaint at computer stores in the 90s, my parents would not pay the Apple tax, so I grew up with my trusty and beloved DOS 2.6 C64, then into a win95 486 around 94, so had little perceived need thus desire for beige Macs. My first...

What I've received as of late...

I see the Titanium design language in pretty much all of the new Macs (and other brands as well). The Titanium is like the great great grand dad of portable design from iPhone 4 to 14-15 to the new MBP. I see the Titanium in so much of what we consider forward thinking, functional design today...

Always wanted a tibook. I remember when those came out. Such a beautiful portable but complete unobtanium at the time financially speaking.

Want to do a memory upgrade on my 04 G4 AL 1.25GHZ.

If money is not a limiting factor, I’d max the ram simply because I can. You may want to run an OS other than Tiger in the future That could benefit from the increase of 1.2 to 2gb. Also, these boxes are old with grumpy bits and not the easiest to work on, so opening it up just once to do all...

    Favorite cooking method?

Forgot to mention. I had one of my quart mason jars crack in my water bath canner dispersing its contents into the bath. Made a big mess lol but got it cleaned up. That is the first time in decades of canning where I’ve had that happen. I’ve had lids fail but never the glass itself. This has...

    Favorite cooking method?

I just finished making and canning a grip of cinnamon apple sauce. The apples were a variety from my wife’s aunts apple orchard up north - mostly Macintosh, Golden delicious, Gala and some other one I could not identify - about 30 pounds worth before processing. Cooling the jars as we speak and...

    10-14-23 total/annular eclipse

I was lucky enough to live right under the total eclipse pathway, so snapped a few pics with the lowest tech method available - my iPhone and some cardboard solar viewers lol. Here’s my favorite. Who knew Sauron was real. 😅 This is another fun one. Believe it or not, this photo was at total...

Picked up a RX580 for my gaming box

When my Radeon R7 M440 died years ago, I had to pull out my old 1gb Radeon HD6790 and have been using that for the past 3 years relegated to primarily TOTC gaming ie: UT/Q3A/Q2/COD/2/HL/2/CSS/Feart etc. Granted Ive been pretty busy so not much time to game in earnest, so not much loss there I...

TinkerDifferent Game Server - Now testing!

Ran into a little UT bug when joining the TD server - DE version mismatch. If any of you run into this, the fix is easy. Just go to your installation directory Unrealtournament>Systems and delete the existing de.u file. When you join the server, the file is replaced, so pretty harmless.

@Patrick - No campers on these servers. Every time I've hopped on, its been all bots.

TinkerDifferent Game Server - Now testing!

I have UT99 ready to go but have not had the time to jump on the TD server. One of my favs though - loves me some UT99. I'll have to try n jump on this Friday or weekend maybe. The Q3A server is fun but the bots are not set too hard (not asking them to be LOL) so any of us old people with old...

Recently bought a PowerBook G4 (Aluminum) and want to make it useable

On lower spec'd portables, I like Tiger 10.4.11 and for the 1ghz and up machines, I like unofficial Sorbet Leopard 10.5.9. There are linux options like Macbuntu and Lubuntu remix which are based off 16.04 iirc, but my understanding is that the software repos were turned off, so software is...

Upgrading from HDD to SSD - how to migrate data?

I I ended up using those white Msata 2.5 pata enclosure + some random cheap msata I had around for my powerbooks when they were alive. Something like this...

Reason Lisa Mouse is So Expensive?

Scarcity? Because that is what someone is willing to pay for them online, so if folks are consistently willing to drop in the area of $3-500 for one, then one could argue that is their current Internet market value. New IRS internet sales regulations that hit the books in the US in 2023 are...

TinkerDifferent Game Server - Now testing!

Just played a few rounds of Q3A on my winbox - averaged around 230 ping which isn't bad at all considering the server location. It reminds me of gaming on domestic servers via 56.6k dial up which brought back all those turn of the century FPS feelies. Thanks for hosting @Kai Robinson . HL or HL2...

For the love of old tech + rant on all things modern

Mild irony, but didn’t BMW come out with the first touch screen UI for radio/climate control etc back in the late 80s? IIRC it was orange and black and all criticisms aside, was a very cool piece of tech for its time. My wife’s 2020 Atlas has a combo touch screen/dial UI for the radio, so not a...

For the love of old tech + rant on all things modern

I have been on and off about buying a new Apple MBP but I cant get past the keyboards. I really dislike their feel and so to drop that kind of money on something I inherently dislike the feel of ... just isnt going to happen. So here I am using old stuff that feels good and I know how to use. If...
