    Keyboard—Help Identify what I have

A few months ago I picked up a batch of stuff—some Mac SEs, a Classic, spare logic boards, a LOT of old HDDs, and a bag of keyboards. One of the keyboards is odd to me. It appears to be painted. . . maybe? It looks like a professional job, with a very subtle knock-down texture and a very very...

Apple Store Grand Opening: Mall of America

I am pretty sure I did get the t-shirt unless they ran out by the time we got in. As you can see, we were on the second floor before getting in line and it stretched all the way down and around the corner. I know I had a shirt (long since worn out) but I might be remembering the one from the...

Mac Classic ROM chip - replacement or more troubleshooting? SOLVED

Today, we finally had a chance to burn a couple EPROMs. Two out of four worked fine. The other two failed to write for some reason, even after successful erasing. I tested the custom ROM and the Classic boots right up! Very cool. Now I have a couple of spare. Even though the original ROM turned...

Trouble Installing DaynaPort Drivers for RaSCSI

I am trying to remember what I recently did to get those installed. I am starting to think that I actually created a physical floppy because I was running into the same problems.

Apple Store Grand Opening: Mall of America

It’s not an actual meet-up, but it was an event. Think of this as a retro-event. Perfect, right? These are photos during my visit to the opening of Apple Store #3, Mall of America in Bloomington, Minnesota, USA. This is a suburb of the Twin Cities (Minneapolis and St. Paul). The date was August...

Two Battery solutions using CR2032 holders

I have seen several examples of using CR2032 battery holders as replacements for dead half-AA on compact Macs. Using this type of battery has been working fine for me on the SE/30, SE, Mac Classic, and I assume there are other systems that can use this solution as well. This is not news to most...

Mac Classic ROM chip - replacement or more troubleshooting? SOLVED

Successful Macintosh troubleshooting is rewarded with a chime! It‘s actually a great feeling to hear that when you have only received blank displays, stripes or checkerboard visuals. I am happy to report that I fixed the Mac Classic. After an easy recap and cleaning, this logic board had...

Safe way to do a Post-recap Power Supply Smoke Test?

You could at least power it up disconnected and put a meter on the pins to check voltages. If it is a Sony, it may be nice to do that before putting the cover on so you can turn the adjustment pot to set voltages where you want to account for reduction with load.

Does the SE Astec PSU have a voltage adjustment?

Yeah, a Sony is what is inside the other SE. I haven’t posted about the actual issue. I was having some weird errors trying to initialize a disk image. SCSI utilities would see the drive image on ID0 but it would not consistently mount. I expect the image was setup with Lido, and reinstalling...

Does the SE Astec PSU have a voltage adjustment?

Well, I lifted the board which was not as hard as I thought and I do NOT see any trim pot for adjusting the output voltage like the Sony. Bummer. May need a recap or ATX swap. Fun project, different weekend I think. I will try one from another SE now and see if I can find root cause of my issues.

Does the SE Astec PSU have a voltage adjustment?

I am troubleshooting BlueSCSI flakiness on an SE and so far it is starting to look like a power issue. I was going to adjust the voltage output but it has the Astec PSU. I took off the top case but there is no visible adjustment pot. Does anyone know if it has a down facing adjustment? Should I...

Macintosh SE BlueSCSI mount/adapter for external access?

@AndyDiags I like the security slot suggestion, but I could not think of a way to use it without cutting the case to get the security clips out of the way. Maybe there is a slick way to make a snap-in part that would let you mount one of these slot extensions and be reversable. If you designed...

Macintosh SE BlueSCSI mount/adapter for external access?

There are several factors of concern when it comes to design. Print orientation (and resulting surface texture aesthetics) is just one factor, but it is not incorrect to favor stability, avoid supports, and feature overhangs (that grow laterally at printable slopes). It is ultimately up to the...

Macintosh SE BlueSCSI mount/adapter for external access?

I just updated my thingiverse item <EDIT: NOW REMOVED—Sorry, I completely misinterpreted the PRUSA footer for object remix on PotatoFi’s item>. This was inspired by Potatofi, and tweaked to put the SD card within reach (or within slightly easier reach). Anyway, there is now <was> a 1.1 version...

Macintosh SE BlueSCSI mount/adapter for external access?

It is a good point. If only I had an ethernet card to worry about that! Actually, burning the expansion slot is far from ideal. A security slot mod would probably require cutting the plastic on the inside, so until I have something for the expansion area, I’d like to avoid destructive mods if...

Macintosh SE BlueSCSI mount/adapter for external access?

Also, I just ordered a BlueSCSI kit from Joe’s computer museum. I expect I will need to make another version of the mounting bracket above to fit, so if you can wait a few days until after I get my kit, I will no doubt have another version to share.

Installing Mac OS X Leopard on the Apple TV (1st generation)

And if I recall, when I installed an image on my internal drive, at the time, hacking the ATV1 did not have a convenient usb patchstick solution yet, so we were pulling off the rubber boot and removing the HDD to set it up on a mac running Tiger.
