Picked up a PowerMac G4 MDD with the Zip750 drive!

Wondering what you use to format those mSATA drives? Got one all hooked up and Drive Setup on the OS9 install CD from my store bought 10.1.2 set says it's unsupported. Need any 2003 MDD bootable CD with formatting tools on it.

    A Classic II/LC III laptop/book….

Love following your progress. VTech was a VERY creative company. The VTech Type-right was one of the first things I bought in anticipation of the arrival of my first CAD/CAM letter cutting workstation. Lo and behold, its KBD responsiveness was far better than that of the very expensive Gerber...

Picked up a PowerMac G4 MDD with the Zip750 drive!

Don't wanna get too far off your topic, but I did the craziest ZipMacPlus™ hack back when. Still have it, should find the pics and post a dedicated thread. Mangled one of the External Parallel drives just like the SCSI version to fit into the FDD bay cubic of a Plus with modded floppy slot. Did...

Picked up a PowerMac G4 MDD with the Zip750 drive!

So far just the B&W was right where I thought it was. NIB kit with sealed drive, probably Zip100? The QS will take some digging, probably will want to keep the Graphite bezels in the cases (favorite design) but ISTR snagging an extra one at some point?. I should get 'em all out and post them...

Picked up a PowerMac G4 MDD with the Zip750 drive!

I'll have to dig thru my pile of crud, I may have both those bezels as well as one I bought back when for the B&W that I've finally given up on adding to my "PortlyMac" menagerie. Gotta thin out the dragon's hoard at some point.

Picked up a PowerMac G4 MDD with the Zip750 drive!

Thanks, I figured I'd only be using a tiny portion of those 128GB drives, just like that 73GB UltraSCSI Savvio under 7.1P in the IIsi. I figure I'll be using a couple of the five drives mSATA drives under ubuntu and Win10. $7 ea. plus S&H/Tax is quite the deal! In the Beige G3 LEM says to...

Picked up a PowerMac G4 MDD with the Zip750 drive!

Got those 128GB mSATA drives arriving soon. What are the Max OS9 partition sizes for: MDD QS DA G3DT 9600/PEX 6360 1400c 9.1 ISTR

Picked up a PowerMac G4 MDD with the Zip750 drive!

If your Mac supports internal ATA devices, by all means get a Zip250. "Click of death" is not an issue with that generation and you have full compatibility with Zip100 SCSI interfaced drives for older Macs.

Picked up a PowerMac G4 MDD with the Zip750 drive!

Thanks, those look great, especially for the MDD. Would it be possible to mount only the bottom part of the case onto a 2.5" to 3.5" adapter sled in the top position of the sidewall bracket in the MDD? Looks a snap to swap out the mSATA cards without removing the drive cage. That thing is a...

Picked up a PowerMac G4 MDD with the Zip750 drive!

Thanks for the nudge here, it looks like 2.5" IDE SSD is still a thing at about $70 in the 128GB Range...

Picked up a PowerMac G4 MDD with the Zip750 drive!

Nice find! I'm still slowly putting together my 1.25MHz OS9 special edition. Thanks to a longtime friend at the MLA I snagged that setup NIB. Plan from day one has been to substitute a Zip250 drive for full compatibility with Zip100. Apple dropped Zip support in the MDD gen, iomega made that...

    iMac G4 Appreciation Thread

Wow! love that micro ilamp setup. PROPS! :D Have you got a decent enough (super high) resolution on its micro screen as compared to the anemic real deal resolution? Not to seriously nit-pick, but the only thing I spy missing would be the requisite SD Card next to the USB ports in the optical...

Need Advice: I Want To Add An SSD To My G4 Mirror Door & Install OS 9 On It

Learn something new every day: Three tier first gen MDD released 8/13/02 were FW400, booting into OS9 or OSX Three tier second gen MDD released 1/28/03 had FW800 and limitation to running Classic under OSX Last gen (re-gen?) MDD released 6/23/03 with FW400 and booting directly into OS9 again...

Need Advice: I Want To Add An SSD To My G4 Mirror Door & Install OS 9 On It

Yep, IIRC all the MDD's were FW800 until the content creators pitched a fit because their apps had yet to be up(down)graded to be compatible with OSX. That was one miserable experience for the first couple of releases, took it off my machine and never paid for required upgrades. OS9 versions...

Need Advice: I Want To Add An SSD To My G4 Mirror Door & Install OS 9 On It

AFAIK, the only MDD that can boot into OS9 natively is the FW400 released just for that very purpose. Which version do you have there? If it's FW800 you're stuck with OS9 running in emulation or Classic(?) or whatever you call is. I call it FAUX9

    Ode to the PowerBook 100

*** PowerBook RAM limitations deserve a dedicated post. The PowerBook 100 was unique. Using RAMdisk+ combined with my maxed out 8MB memory configured BabyPB was a dream. Its battery backed, persistent memory was an amazing feature. In 1991 a PowerBook didn't really need more than 4MB of memory...

    Ode to the PowerBook 100

The PowerBook 100 TrackBall diameter, handiness is far, far superior to the big ball series. I used the 100 IRL, but not any of the full size models. When I collected my first pick of the full size series PowerBook 150*** or handled the RAM limited PowerBook 100's contemporaries the ball didn't...

    Ode to the PowerBook 100

I have a soft spot for it too, but because it was the first victim I acquired for my still unrealized MacAntFarm project. Brought the sucker back to life along with the several other victims that followed . . . drat the luck! Unlike the 5300 PPC iteration its case and internal config allow...

    Ode to the PowerBook 100

Forgot to mention that I'd figured the 100 in SCSI Disk Mode would be replacing the 1GB HDD I'd been lugging between the shop and home in a big blue Makita toolbox along with my briefcase/bag. Others couldn't do that until the 180! :D Maxed BabyPB out with 8MB, 270MB HDD, SCSI Case for its OEM...
