    120GB SSDs in G4 Cube

Also, just to let everybody know, the 2.5" IDE to 3.5" IDE adapter that I purchased isn't usable as is due to the power connector being stupidly flipped 180° opposite of a normal 3.5" IDE HDD. What in THE world was the manufacturer of that adapter thinking!! Of course, if you connect it in a...

    SMC Fat Mac Switcher

Another absolutely fantastic gizmo from Kay Koba. I've long thought it very funny so many people pay high prices for either a 128K Mac or 128K motherboard only because it was "the first Mac." Dog Cow's technical dive into differences notwithstanding, the Mac512, with 64K ROMs, is essentially...

    120GB SSDs in G4 Cube

Here are the specs of my PDQ... Wallstreet, PowerBook G3 PDQ Machine ID: 312 SN: QT9031GPE6D Model: M4753 Date: Late 1998 CPU: 266MHz Backside Cache: 1MB BUS SPEED: 66 MHz LCD: 14.1" RAM: 320MB ROM: $77D.41F6

    120GB SSDs in G4 Cube

We must define what "perfectly" means though. In my Wallstreet PDQ, the SSD setup I've been testing boots fine now. The major caveat is that it no longer recognizes the 20X CD-ROM expansion bay module, which otherwise works fine when a spinning platter 80GB 2.5" HDD is installed. And as I...

    120GB SSDs in G4 Cube

Every failure is a learning experience. True, I wasted an enormous amount of time in that experience, but at least my having posted about the failure in this thread will save many other people the trouble of repeating the same failure. All said, what works on a Windows machine or what works...

    120GB SSDs in G4 Cube

I tried it, but to no avail. It shows the internal drive, which is the SSD, as ID0. But it doesn't show the 20X Apple CD ROM module at all. And I read the documentation which says those CD modules ARE supported, so it's not a limitation of FWB CD-ROM Toolkit. Again, I am very disappointed...

    120GB SSDs in G4 Cube

Very interesting... Not sure how "hot load" works on a technical level, but I will give that a try on my Wallstreet when I have some time. I then need to see about how to get it to work on my G4 Cube because I bought the SSD for that, not the Wallstreet. Even if FWB CD-ROM Toolkit works...

    120GB SSDs in G4 Cube

I've spend pretty much all of my free time in vain over the last week trying to get this mSATA drive to work in my G4 Cube. I've put in more than 12 hours, testing it with my G4 Cube, and also with my PowerBook G3 Wallstreet PDQ 14.1" 266MHz (as both an internal and external drive), as well as...

Logic Board - Macintosh SE Reloaded

Absolutely fantastic creation! It's a lot of information to process. That's why I had to break it up in so many videos. For those of you who don't already know, the full collection of SE Reloaded videos is found here...

Logic Board - Macintosh SE Reloaded

I'm thrilled you solved the problem, and I apologize for not having pointed that out. I actually have a C67 warning in my Part I video here... But I edited the text description just now to make that part more clear in the INDEX, and I also added a little Warning emoji next to it as well. I...

    120GB SSDs in G4 Cube

I can try that, but I didn't do it yet because, logically, it makes the most sense to CLONE my internal SPINNER drive contents to the SSD, then put the SSD inside and use it. Sadly, because I cannot get Tiger to see it, I cannot use Carbon Copy Cloner to clone my internal drive to the SSD. Not...

    120GB SSDs in G4 Cube

Assuming the drive even works as an internal unit, which I've not tested yet, I suppose it could become an OS 9 ONLY machine since only OS9 can see the SSD. But I prefer to run OS X Tiger with my Cubes too. Unfortunately, I've spent a lot of time on this, and I really don't know what to do to...

    120GB SSDs in G4 Cube

I did not partition. iPartition is OS X software. When I launch iPartition in Tiger, it cannot see the SSD. Nothing within Tiger sees the SSD. That is the issue which I don't know how to solve. OS 9 sees the SSD, however. I am confused about why.

Logic Board - Macintosh SE Reloaded

@iPhil64 Could you post an iPhone video (with audio) of some of your boot attempts? If no drives are connected, it won't "boot" but it will "power on." So when you make a video, please tell us if there are any SCSI or floppy drives attached. If nothing is attached, then it would simply be a...

    120GB SSDs in G4 Cube

👍 GOOD NEWS My Adapter setup works with the 128GB mSATA SSD as an external FW400 drive. mSATA to 2.5" IDE Adapter (red PCB below) 2.5" IDE to 3.5" IDE Adapter (green PCB below) IDE to FW400 interface (gutted years ago from an old ext. FW drive, and confirmed working with my spinner IDE drives)...

Logic Board - Macintosh SE Reloaded

Were both internal floppy drive connectors DISCONNECTED at the time you powered on? Even if there was no disk inserted into a floppy drive, I am curious if the motherboard is attempting to access an attached floppy drive and then crashing with the sad Mac. If you had any such drive attached...

Logic Board - Macintosh SE Reloaded

I will of course return to this topic tomorrow. After work tomorrow evening, I also have plans to work more on my Color Classic Analog Board video, as well as test a new SSD solution that works in a G4 Cube. Stay tuned!

I do hope Kai will chime in to tell us what PLCC extractor he used. But it's usually the case where I am the lone man on the planet who cannot figure out how to use the tool that works for everyone else. Anyway, I bid you all good night!

Logic Board - Macintosh SE Reloaded

Gentlemen, I've had the past week off (Japanese Golden Week), but tomorrow is the start of my new work week. I need to get to bed early this evening. Hopefully, @Kai Robinson can chime in with his thoughts about (1) the cause of the 0000000F 0000000A sad Mac, and (2) the cause of the display...

Logic Board - Macintosh SE Reloaded

No way I am paying those prices when something the shape of an ice pick will do the job. I just used an alternative tool I had on hand, which was a spike tipped voltage probe. Even a tiny flat head screw driver might have worked. Logically, I should have been able to use that PLCC extractor...
