Mac Plus repair with the ROM-inator Resurrections

I plan to show some short video clips at the end of my next video (due out within 72 hours) which shows just how low-profile Kay's ROM-inator kit is. Much lower profile than the one I made. Kay's version allowed me to slide the motherboard in normally without resorting to a flat-head screw...

Recapping the LC575 "Mystic" motherboard for the Color Classic

Since it's Thanksgiving in the US today, I should express my thanks for Panasonic's low-ESR OS-CON capacitors. They're the ideal choice when recapping of the LC575 "Mystic" motherboard, especially when you upgrade the CPU and/or overclock. Enjoy that turkey, friends! 🦃

Documentation for DB15 to VGA adapters

Thank you for your kind words about my video. The reason I purchased the monitor shown in my video was price. That HP looks like a great solution. However, I just checked the E190i on Amazon Japan and it shows a USED price equivalent to US$230. In contrast, I paid the equivalent of US$52 for...

    Color Classic Mystic Upgrade

That is of course a modification of the back panel taken from my now defunct LC575 carcass. No such slicing and dicing is being done on the precious Color Classic! The LC575 was purchased primarily for its motherboard, but it just so happens to be useful for other parts too! Anyway, I think...

    Color Classic Mystic Upgrade

My next video, due out this week, is about recapping with OS-CON capacitors. I will then release a short video very soon after that, mostly filmed by @Kay K.M.Mods. It highlights some amazing work that Kay did on the back panel -- a custom, hand-crafted work of art! Stay tuned! :)

Macintosh LC 575 “Mystic” logic board recap, install into Color Classic II chassis

Folks, I intend to show @Kay K.M.Mods' amazing craftsmanship on YouTube in less than 1 week. The video he made is pretty amazing. Stay tuned!

    Compact Mac Video Adapter

@Stephen, in June of this year, someone sent me some photos of a board he found inside his SE, which somewhat resembles your photos... He said it clipped onto one of the LS245 chips... He has no idea what the original function was, and there doesn't appear to be any info on it when...

Is the AMTECH 559 PLUNGER botched?

The flux comes out on its own for reasons I mentioned earlier in this thread; namely, that once you press on the plunger to push out a little bit of flux, there continues to be increased pressure by the plunger on the flux that remains in the tube and so it keeps flowing out until that increased...

Is the AMTECH 559 PLUNGER botched?

Due to the increased Rosin content, the MG chemicals flux that I use takes longer to burn off than the Amtech 559, and I’ve never been able to get the MG flex to sizzle either, which is nice. But the biggest benefit is the fact it comes with a decent plunger so I don’t have to 3-D print anything...

Is the AMTECH 559 PLUNGER botched?

Do you have a video or a portion of an existing video that shows your 3-D printed plunger in action, @Branchus ?

Documentation for DB15 to VGA adapters

I purchased this Adapter from Amazon (no switches at all) and found it to work exactly the same as my UnimacFly adapter when driving an external display from my SE/30 with Micron Xceed video card. I use that Amazon DIP-less adapter in my video here.

    Finally, a nice Quadra 840AV

Gayle, thanks for sharing that story. I was 13 in 1984. When my father and I were in a computer shop early that year to pick up our fist home computer (the Macintosh 128K), I recall spotting the larger Lisa on display near the Mac display. I asked, "What's that?" To which my father replied...

The Secret History of Mac Gaming: Expanded Edition

Interestingly, I've never lost a book. But at my age, the thing I increasingly lose these days is my mind. 🤪

Is the AMTECH 559 PLUNGER botched?

Thank you for reminding me about that difference! The hole diameter of the MG Chemicals flux syringe (needle nose) is a bit wider than the AMTECH. Even so, it takes about the same force on the plunger to get each flux out via the needle during cold weather. I guess the added rosin in the MG...

Is the AMTECH 559 PLUNGER botched?

Not yet. I merely posted my "review" of sorts here. I did read through all the Amazon reviews. Not a single person mentioned what I mentioned. I guess I alone care about such things, which is rather odd.

Is the AMTECH 559 PLUNGER botched?

No, I'm satisfied with the MG flux for reasons mentioned in my opening post. I just had higher expectations for the AMTECH kit, and was a bit disappointed when comparing it to the MG, not simply in terms of the flux, but with regard to the dispenser. I absolutely LOVE the fact the MG plunger...

Is the AMTECH 559 PLUNGER botched?

So it's not just me then. You seem to understand what I mean about the included 559 plunger being inappropriate. While it is nice to have an EBAY solution, the MG Chemicals product is functional and needs nothing extra. The best part is, I can buy it from Mouser, but I can't buy the 559 from...

Is the AMTECH 559 PLUNGER botched?

I've been using MG Chemicals flux, with built-in syringe and plunger. It has been great. But with so many people constantly raving about AMTECH 559, I decided to give that a try. Sadly, only the Chinese knock-off "559" is sold here in Japan that I can see, so I purchased 559 from Amazon USA...

Apple's Concession to Right to Repair

Spotted this article today: https://appleinsider.com/articles/21/11/17/apple-will-allow-customers-to-repair-iphones-and-macs-in-2022 This won't help folks who have "obsolete" Macs since I believe Apple only offers parts for about 7 years. There are older Intel Macs like the late 2009 27" iMac...
