    Quadra 650 logic board

Sounds like the pins must have rotted while still fitted inside that CPU connector. Wow! I do see a lot of corrosion on the metal "+" shaped bracket that holds the heatsink on. It guess that board has been through a lot. By the way, do you remove the CPUs with a tool like this?

The Secret History of Mac Gaming: Expanded Edition

I have the 1st edition. No doubt many of you do too. What are you all doing with your 1st editions? (I doubt they'd sell now that the expanded version is out, and I honestly don't need two books largely the same!)

    Quadra 650 logic board

Wow, Kai! The 040 processor really broken apart when you tried to pry it out of the socket? Did the ceramic body crack when you tried to remove the heatsink holder? I must say the board looks very nice after your cleaning. It is a pretty large board, so did you have to do half at a time in...

Another way to solder down the chips? How long do you have to leave it sitting atop that 200°C firebrand?

Add Thread Links to Photos displayed under "Latest Profile Posts"

"Latest Profile Posts" in the right sidebar are not as intuitive as they could be. Every time I see photos posted there, I instinctively click on the photos, only to be disappointed that the associated thread doesn't open due to the lack of a link. It would be nice to click a pic to open its...

Forum preferences saved to account instead of cookies

It's a very reasonable request. I hide a bunch of categories at home, and then when I came to work and logged in, everything was expanded again. Of course, that only applies to Dark Mode too. Folks with the Light theme don't even have the option to collapse categories they don't want to see...

    50-pin SCSI HDD won't mount

I've got an Apple-branded Quantum Fireball 1280S 1.2GB 3.5" SCSI drive that won't mount. If I change the SCSI ID via jumpers, SCSI Probe shows the correct ID every time. But SCSI Probe won't mount it, nor will any other Utility app I've tried. Most utility apps (Lido, SilverLining, etc.)...

    Color Classic Mystic Upgrade

Takky is a lot more work though. If you do a Takky upgrade, you need @Kay K.M.Mods to offer you some tips. He has first-hand experience.

    Color Classic Mystic Upgrade

No fear of a Takky upgrade by me, Drake. "68K" is permanently etched on my heart. 💘 I also like the ability to run System 7.1. The PM 6100 could do that, but Takky requires the PM 5200 or higher, which only works with System 7.5.x or higher. To be honest, I'd love to run System 6 on my...

    Color Classic Mystic Upgrade

Drake, I always try to be myself in my videos, rather than display a fake emotion. Of course, the unfortunate fact about my personality is that I don't have my MadMax supercharger switched on most of the time. :-) That's especially true because I film after a long day at work, and I am usually...

    Too many categories

@Patrick I fully understand your sentiments. I recognize your feelings to be important too, because there are a good number of folks who really dislike Dark mode, for one reason or another. I believe a short summary of what you would like is this: a new Light theme, which at the very least...

    Color Classic Mystic Upgrade

The 2nd video in my ongoing Color Classic series is now public. I posted benchmarks from MacBench 3, Speedometer 4 and Norton System Info 3.5.3. Much more to come!

iMac Plus First look, What do you think?

I voted Yes for the concept, but how would the LCD work, since you wouldn't be able to find an LCD in the native 512 × 342 pixel resolution, and going to a higher resolution would present some undesirable issues? Also, if it has a real working floppy drive inside, it would need to be an old...

    Too many categories

I agree with @Kai Robinson in that we need to see how more forum members react over time. For now, I enjoy using this little guy in the upper right corner of each forum in the list... When you collapse forums that are of no interest to you, the sheer number of forums becomes less...

iMac (Late-2009) Graphics Card Bake Success Story

Sorry, I somehow missed seeing this great thread until today! I actually have 8 videos on the topic of the 2009-2011 iMac video card bake and replacement: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLNZ4qjMn-GHoez6_PtpyJfcU_ialTS8bB My first bake lasted 4 months, but I believe that was due to the...

    Color Classic Crash Chimes

Just grab a 100% plastic tool or wooden stick and press a bit on the transformer (not the capacitor) to see if that affects the hissing.

Macintosh LC 575 “Mystic” logic board recap, install into Color Classic II chassis

When I spoke to him about that PRAM battery in late October, I had the understanding it was a replacement PRAM battery for the 128K~Plus. We spoke about the diodes used in the early design too, and I had mentioned that because there is already a reverse polarity protection diode on the...

Macintosh LC 575 “Mystic” logic board recap, install into Color Classic II chassis

CR2032's are 225mAh, and therefore would yield 149 days of life on an unplugged LC575 motherboard. Better than LR44 or SR44 batteries, to be sure, but much less life than the stock 800mAh battery.

    Color Classic Crash Chimes

If you need to show long and detailed videos, I'd recommend YouTube with the video set to Unlisted, and then post a link. I watched your video and listened to the sound. When you press on the capacitor, is it touching the transformer? If it does touch, are you sure the sound isn't coming from...

Macintosh LC 575 “Mystic” logic board recap, install into Color Classic II chassis

I had pondered a AA or AAA solution, but in my experience, those batteries leak worse than an old SMD cap from the 80's! You really need to keep an eye on those. The stock "cube" batteries don't have a leaking issue. A trio of LR44's are much safer, especially the Anti-leak variants (maybe...
