    LC 550 Logic board debug

...yeah, but first I need to figure out to get that 4 sided chip back. Unlike the egret where I've done drag soldering across the legs this guy's legs go under the chip, not sure drag soldering will work the same. Also thinking about tinning the pads, putting the chip in place and using the hot...

    LC 550 Logic board debug

The chips look pretty darn clean. Cleaning just the same. I actually hadn’t thought to try PRAM reset as i didn’t think I was getting far enough with boot for that to apply.

    LC 550 Logic board debug

Can you point me to what I'd order for replacements? If it was the SCSI chip I would think I'd get video, just not be able to boot a SCSI device? Still I'm looking over the board again under the microscope...

    LC 550 Logic board debug

Remove L1 and L2, clean under them, and resolder?

    LC 550 Logic board debug

I have a LC 550 logic board that I'm trying to get working and would appreciate any thoughts and/or advice. It came to me looking pretty good, maybe some signs of leaking capacitors but no obvious signs of trace damage. I did test it prior to re-capping in a known working LC575 chassis: On...

What are your vintage grail items?

NASA, Macintosh IIfx, Space Shuttle flight simulations… Boring! ….Now let me tell you about the time I played Oregon Trail on a Macintosh LC in a middle school computer lab, so exciting. 😜 Kidding aside I want hear more too!!!

Airport card doesn't see any networks (G4 Cube)

The original AirPort card you have should be able to work with any Wi-Fi access point that supports 802.11b. I‘m pretty sure it’s possible to configure newer Airports to only support 802.11g/n/ac which would break older “b” only cards like the original AirPort card. I believe it’s also possible...

    PowerBook 1xx Series Battery Case

Aren’t ”1.5” volt nimh rechargeable batteries really outputting ~1.2 to 1.3 volts? 6.2 total output could mean each cell is outputting 1.24v http://www.stefanv.com/electronics/using_nimh.html

Help identifying this Ethernet card from my SE/30

Sonic Systems? Can you run Tattletech and see what it reports about the card?

    Too many categories

I pretty much only browse the site using “What’s new - Latest activity“. the downside with that approach is the many ”like” posts that for the most part aren’t interesting when my goal is discovering what topics are actively being discussed.

What should i do with this Macintosh ELSIE prototype ?

No VRAM slot …or chips on the logic board? I wonder if this LC prototype used main memory for video like the IIci/IIsi?

What should i do with this Macintosh ELSIE prototype ?

Jinx! …I had this post open before dinner, thinking about that weird slot, post this comment and then find someone posted basically the same thing in the meantime. Lol.

What should i do with this Macintosh ELSIE prototype ?

Fun floppy slot! I guess they were testing manual inject floppies back when the original LC was developed, but ended up sticking with auto-inject drives in the original LC.

Disk Jockey, a disk image file maker for your retro stuff - Beta for version 3!

Very cool! Especially the partitioning and driver install. I had just assumed that had to be done on a Mac (or Mac emulator) Curious, what SCSI disk driver are you using?

How many 3.5" Floppy drives can you daisy chain?

Really? I always thought you could not daisy chain floppy drives on a Mac, each had to have its own port (unlike say the the Apple IIgs). Somewhere I recall reading the SE could support the most floppy drives, two internal and one external.

Apple eMate 300 Expansion Module (Open Source / Open Hardware Project)

Ah, sorry I should have looked there, I had while back and now vaguely recall seeing those images. Darn, I thought the chance was small mine might be a different rev but wanted to check. Maybe it is just a bad batch of Intel flash chips? I recall when I rebuilt the battery on my first eMate...

Apple eMate 300 Expansion Module (Open Source / Open Hardware Project)

I picked up another eMate advertised as 4MB, is this the same DT320? Rev D? Seems to work fine for me, seeing close to 4MB System RAM and storage.

Macintosh LC 475 ..... need a little help

So it’s a “Formac PL150-21”! …anybody know anything about it? 😛. Not much I see in a quick Google. It does look somewhat similar to Sonnet QuadDoubler, there‘s a nice low profile heat sink on the CPU, and a 89.9 clock crystal. Maybe it runs the CPU at half that, ~45Mhz? The CPU/heat sink being...

Macintosh LC 475 ..... need a little help

No, but I’m intrigued! It looks like a CPU upgrade of some sort, plugging into the logic board CPU socket? Perhaps a Quaddoubler? or L2 Cache? Does the machine boot at present, if so can you run Tattletech or some other utility that reports CPU speed, etc? If is is just connected to the CPU...
