    Tinker Different 2024 Calendar Competition

Oooh, I will play! Here is a picture of my WeatherSTAR 4000 I had fully reverse engineered and got running again with my own custom software. This is running a dual-68K setup with a pair of MCS51 CPUs as well, along with a ATMega and a Pi acting as the host. Also a picture of it being displayed...

SE/30 with vertical jail bars - looking for a direction steer on my next steps

I have gotten to the point where I replace those chips anymore. They easily get damaged from the capacitor leakage. UE8 is mandatory, and the rest are secondary. Also I have found that sometimes the VRAM itself gets damaged on the data bit outputs and its missing a bit. From the look of the...

Interest Poll: Macintosh Portable RAM Cards

I have his prototype which works perfectly fine: I didn't use the ROM slot /AS jumper, thats required to see more than 5MB of RAM:

Reproduction RAM cards for Mac Portable

Basic system software doesnt support that amount of RAM or it will crash. This is normal. You have to have a full install, for the portable install in order for the system software to not crash on About this Macintosh. Also, the wire is there to connect to the ROM slot /AS when using it on a...

Reproduction RAM cards for Mac Portable

I think Maceffects quit selling that version because of 2 problems. One, you cannot get the CPLDs anymore. and thats the thing pinching BMOW and his decision to potentially discontinue the Floppy Emu. and two, the RAM ICs probably ran out, which is sad :-( I have a dynamic engineering RAM card...

Solicitation to be considered for the TinkerDifferent Board of Directors

I am willing to throw my name in the hat. why not? I used to manage forums software back in the day, but I haven't since 2008. Back then it was IPB 2.X and Vbulletin 3 i believe. Outside of that, I typically spend most of my days on Discord versus the forum itself, but I try to be there and...

    Adding a CRT toggle switch

I got an old clunker SE sitting around that I could experiment with this, but who knows when I will have the time to get to it. I am literally buried with other projects including rebuilding an ANS power supply that died.

    Adding a CRT toggle switch

Yep! So you must cut the 12V (red) sweep supply. However the caveat is, I dont know if this will cause a surge current condition which can trigger spontaneous reboots when turning the CRT back on. So maybe a capacitor pi filter network between the switch to attempt to suppress this. the CRT...

    Adding a CRT toggle switch

Yes, I am correct: To totally power down the CRT Section of a Compact, you must cut the 12V sweep supply. What would be totally cool is finding an unused signal on one of the VIAs, a transistor, relay, etc. and then writing an extention to allow the monitor to go into "energy saver" but ya...

    Adding a CRT toggle switch

I would have to look at the schematics again, but last I checked, the heater is powered directly from the sweep voltage on those compacts.

    Adding a CRT toggle switch

You need to cut the Sweep 12V completely off to the analog board. Even if you cut the drive signal to the horizontal output stage, the filament will always stay on and cook which will wear the CRT down. Best solution is to cut the 12V sweep entirely to the analog section. What I do not know...

Replacing the polarizer on a PowerBook 150

There was a website I was looking at (i need to go back and look) that sells different versions, such as gloss, 50% matte, and matte. The one you picked up appears to be gloss so it looks kinda odd. I think the powerbooks were all 50% matte but I could be wrong. Regardless, Looks great :)...

Macintosh Portable Issue - Screeching Noise

The other thing to be aware of on these portables is the molex connector. YOU MUST make sure both B+ input connections are connected and have voltage or really bad things will happen.
