    BlueSCSI on Macintosh Portable

I wouldn't knock trying other high capacity RAM cards. Who know. Maybe one of them might have some kind of trick.

Any Tips for Repairing a Mangled PQFP?

Well tried my best. Not too happy that I managed to put back some pads crooked, but it is what it is at this point. The fuz is because I used tissue paper along with weight applied on top while curing to make sure the pad were pressed down properly. I guess if I put a socket it would hide...

Any Tips for Repairing a Mangled PQFP?

Correction. It's PLCC and not a PQFP. The pins were so bent I thought it was. Just remove the chip and yeah... That's a lot of missing and detached pads. One whole row of pins on the chip were broken too. Will need a replacement chip. Maybe a PLCC socket would make the old chip usable...

Any Tips for Repairing a Mangled PQFP?

So I just noticed this on a Max ntosh Portable I was troubleshooting: The SCC chip had been pushed so hard the pins on the sides are offset by 1 pin, broken traces, lifted traces and bent legs. It amazingly still works in System 6.0.8 but 7 and up freezes on boot. Any advice on how to...

    BlueSCSI on Macintosh Portable

Yeah was just reading the Macintosh Portable can throttle CPU speed. Wonder if disabling automatic sleep would do anything. Reference: https://mirrors.apple2.org.za/ftp.apple.asimov.net/documentation/macintosh/atp_macintoshportable.pdf

    BlueSCSI on Macintosh Portable

If it's related to the PDS slot mem management/limitation I'd expect degradation of performance past a 3MB ram card on a backlit Macintosh Portable. It'd be kinda weird since I don't think any of us actually have a PDS card installed. Wonder if those old PDS ram expansions had the same...

    BlueSCSI on Macintosh Portable

https://www.tech-insider.org/mac/research/acrobat/9204.pdf It's maybe "intentionally" designed to behave the way it dees right now based on the info above. Perhaps it's spending extra time always checking for an installed PDS card when the total ram is above 5MB on a Macintosh Portable and...

    BlueSCSI on Macintosh Portable

Regarding the software installed on my Portable for the benchmarks, it's pretty much stock System 6.0.8 with just the Iomega driver extension. I did do the benchmark on 7.1 with update 3 and it was slightly slower. @Androda regarding the 7MB card performance vs the 3MB, if it's not too hard...

    BlueSCSI on Macintosh Portable

Mac OS 6.0.8 with my old 3MB card After sleep: Hmmm maybe the psram on 7MB is being set into a low power/low performance state during sleep and doesn't recover.

I'll test out Speedometer results on my Macintosh Portable with the 7MB card installed tonight as well. If it is an issue hopefully it can be fixed with a firmware update of the FPGA.

    Macintosh Portable Battery Adapter

How'd the printing of that case go? One reason I didn't go with the original Macintosh Portable battery case design for my battery adapter is because it would take a lot of support material or compromise the surface finish of one of the sides to print on an FDM printer. The main reason...

    Macintosh Portable Battery Adapter

Just an update about the using supercapacitors based on recent tests. It seems like using 6F or 10F supercaps is not sufficient to spin up newer SCSI hard drives with higher current draw. The original drive `CP-3045` 40MB is alright and another `IBM-H3171-S2` 160MB drive worked alright, but...

    Macintosh Portable Battery Adapter

Just curious but why both v1.1 and v1.2? v1.2 allows you to use a battery like v1.1 with the addition of the super cap stuff.

    "Spicy O'clock" project has started

I wouldn't consider those clips marked in red as the weakest point. If it's PLA I'd be more worried about the little arms pushing down on the heatsink snapping off. Regarding installation, you're not meant to forcefully snap on the clip with no tools. You're supposed to clip on one edge of the...
