    iMac G4 constantly crashing/kernel panics

@jeffburg - I think you might be on track with the RAM suggestion. I removed one of the two chips I installed, and it's been running much more smoothly. I had upgraded both chips (from 1x256MB to 2x512MB, maxing it out at the 1GB limit). A also found a utility called RAM Check at MacintoshGarden...

    iMac G4 constantly crashing/kernel panics

When I initially got it the power supply was bad, so I was never able to run the system before I started working on it. But yeah, I have been careful to replace the thermal paste on the two points of the thermal pipe each time (sometimes too much). I have NOT replaced the thermal padding on the...

    iMac G4 constantly crashing/kernel panics

I don't have another adapter or SSD, but I guess I could put the original drive back into it. The power supply I got off eBay, it had been pulled from another iMac G4. I assumed that since there were so few of these models iterated that they would be interchangeable.

    iMac G4 constantly crashing/kernel panics

I don't remember if I did pull the motherboard out entirely or not. I feel like I started to but it ended up being a lot more complicated than I was expecting? Or maybe I did. Really don't remember. I'll go ahead and try that when I replace the thermal padding on the CPU, which I'm pretty sure I...

    iMac G4 constantly crashing/kernel panics

So, I've had this iMac G4 for more than a year now. When I got it they said it was water damaged and wouldn't start. I figured out the power supply was blown so i installed a replacement and got it working. I later maxed out the RAM, added an Airport card, replaced the PRAM battery, and swapped...

Can You Run System 7.5.3 On A G4 MDD?

Easiest way to check is to hold Option while booting. It'll find any supported System folders and give you the option to startup from them.

    Project: Reviving an iMac G4

Yeah, I was able to find a used - TESTED internal power supply replacement for like $50, likely harvested from another iMac g4. I didn't even look into wiring an external one, though I did temporarily consider converting it to run on 12v power for reasons that are no longer relevant. I see a...

    Getting online with System 7.5.3

Oh this is a great resource! I've already spent a couple hours this morning poking around here and the sites it links to, and now I am determined to put up at least an alternate version of my website that will work on classic OS. Gotta dust off my HTML 3.2 skills!

    Getting online with System 7.5.3

So yesterday after days of trial-and-error I FINALLY Got my MacSE online using a PiSCSI! Now I'm a bit at a loss for what kind of Internet I can experience with this machine. It's maxxed out at 4MB of RAM and System 7.5.3. So far I've got an IRC client working, but am hesitant to start using...

    OS 6, 7.5 date patch?

    OS 6, 7.5 date patch?

One thing I've run into running OS 7.5.3 on vintage hardware is that the system date stops at around 2012. Has there been a patch update to allow actual current dates in the system? I remember someone did this for Newton software some time ago, hoping there's one for the 68K systems as well.

    PB 160 Trackball Repair

Well, I was cleaning the trackball in my PB 160 and apparently one of the IR sensors was not well-attached. One of the wire leads had corroded all the way through and the whole thing just popped off. So now I'm trying to figure out what the specs are on that IR emitter component so I can order...

PowerBook 160 - New owner here

Oh nice! I went ahead and downloaded that STL file for the battery enclosure, but I'm wondering if it's possible to just use the one that's not working right. Like, just replace the cells with the pack @jcs recommends on the Printables page. Or would the existing enclosure get destroyed just...

PowerBook 160 - New owner here

Last night I recapped the display board and now the PowerBook is running great, though still without the battery! There's a little ghosting in the display, so i'm hoping to go in and do some more cleaning, but hesitant to accidentally destroy the ribbon cable. It's got an 80MB hard drive, I'm...

    Project: Reviving an iMac G4

So: The current plan is to upgrade the printer with an OEM Formatter board that includes an Ethernet port (and possibly wifi?), upgrading my HP 1022 to an HP 1022n model, then connecting to the printer via a direct ethernet connection to the D-link router. The other printer already has ethernet...

    Project: Reviving an iMac G4

The printer is shared through the Mini, I can connect to it from any other computer on the wifi network. No USB on the D-Link, just 4 Ethernet ports. I feel like I remember being able to find other printers on the networks at work via AppleTalk, but it's likely that all the computers were...

    Project: Reviving an iMac G4

Back again with the latest - So, I've got the iMac G4 running beautifully now, with OS 9.2.2 on the main partition. I've got the Airport card connecting to a vintage D-Link router (the Airport Express station I picked up was failing miserably so I salvaged it's card and set the rest aside)...

Mac SE w/dual floppies - where is the System stored?

I do have a PiSCSI running now and it's working great through the external SCSI ports. I'm not sure I'm going to be keeping any of these SEs, so i didn't want to go with an internal solution. But I will definitely recommend it when I do decide to pass these on to new homes.
