    I Bought 8 x 16MB SIMMs from tindie.

    1) Contact SiliconInsider through Tindie. 2) Did you try only populating the lower 4 banks of RAM?

    Software-only OVERCLOCK for LC475, LC575, Quadra 605

This is seriously cool - and it's making me re-re-re(I could go on)-shuffle my priority list to finish the 475 sooner rather than later so I can try this out!

ResourceForks.com - Browse resource forks online!

Necroing this thread because someone found a IIfx specific version of MacTest - https://macintoshgarden.org/apps/mactest-ii DL#7. Allegedly it contains some neat illustration. Could the MacTest suite be an addition to the site?

Thoughts On The Global Tech Outage?

I find it weird that many are calling it a "Windows" or "Microsoft" debacle/problem/issue/whathaveyou. The problem was the 3rd party vendor of security software Crowdstrike. If you're not a large-scale enterprise spending millions in license fees to Crowdstrike, your Windows installation is fine.

My Performa boots to gray screen

Hello and welcome! I'm afraid we're going to need a bit more information in order to help you diagnose this. Which Performa model is this? Does the hard drive spin up? Does the startup chime sound? Other sounds?

    ATTO Silicon Express IV Nubus

Wow, looks like you're pretty much saturating the SCSI and/or Nubus bus there. For both read and write. Also be aware that flash memory isn't particularly strong on long sequential writes - it's the near-instant seek times which makes everything snappy. Thanks for publishing these results!

TashRecorder: a Farallon MacRecorder compatible clone

Oh! Oh my! Now _that_ brings up some memories! I don't know where my dad got a hold of one, but one day we had what we referred to as the "computer recording cassette" for the SE(or was it an SE/30 by then?). I remember recording my little brother saying a phrase into an app and being able to...

Converting An 80-gig External To A 250 gig SSD-Need Advice

    1) Mount the SSD in your MDD, using either 1a) A SATA controller, as detailed in https://tinkerdifferent.com/threads/sata-in-an-old-world-pci-power-mac-impossibru-updated-11-22-23.1494/ 1b) Using that red IDE-to-SATA adapter you posted a picture of. YMMV, these are fickle computers 2) Get...

Dumb Question: I Need To Get A PCI USB Card For My G4 MDD, But...

USB 3.0 won't work in a G4 at all, but there are even new compatible USB2 cards available! Check out amzn.eu/d/eDF1WCw I got the tip from https://bitbang.social/@[email protected]/112518836789668607

Dell R520 - The expansion continues...

My 2 cents: I wouldn't recommend running RAID50 in a 6-disk setup. As we touched upon on Discord, RAID50 or rather 5+0 isn't for redundancy - it's for performance: https://www.techtarget.com/searchstorage/definition/RAID-50-RAID-50 Splitting the load across 2x RAID5 sets for more speed, mainly...

Accelerator Cards and Original Device CPUs

The way CPU accelerators _generally_ work on Macs is that the original CPU (along with the ROM) does the first startup of everything, including launching the OS. Then a system extension takes over and punts the processing over to the accelerator. Removing the original CPU will render the system...

    MC68030RC50 in an SE/30

Nothing bad happens. The CPU won't even break a sweat since you're running it a half its rated speed. That is if you don't swap the crystal. Understand that there's no such thing as a "CPU clock" on these old things. If you swap to a 30MHz crystal you overclock the entire logic board including...
