    Macintosh Portable

I'm not sure this helps at all, and I have seen a comment on Reddit that says the two panels are the same, but there are also Apple references to different part numbers: PowerBook 170 display - part number 661-0711 Mac Portable LCD Non-BackLit display - 661-0473 Mac Portable LCD BackLit display...

    SE/30 no ADB

The silver thing is a fuse (the board has a marking for 'F1'). A simple continuity check with a multimeter ought to tell you if it has blown. I had an ADB failure on an SE resulting from hot swapping a keyboard. It had shorted the circuit and blown that fuse.

    BlueSCSI v2 on PB170

Going full circle, back to the original 'BlueSCSI v2 on PB170' topic, I recently bought another (current production) v2 BlueSCSI for the 170, and have used it to replace the original hard drive. I used the 7.1 image assembled by @Ron's Computer Videos from the outline drawn up by @eric and I...

    100-series interconnect cables

@Daniel Hansen that is really helpful, thanks!!! I don't have any hope of making new interconnects - I'm rather limited in what I am physically able to do - but I do have a couple of 'parts' PBs which might be suitable donors! New interconnects would be a better bet if they are available...

    100-series interconnect cables

I have a 165c and 180, both with bad interconnect cables (the short, grey ribbon connecting bottom and top near the rear). They both have vertical lines/deformations on screen, and the 180 also has some non-responsive keys and doesn't chime. Both systems have displayed what I think are typical...

    BlueSCSI v2 on PB170

I am in the US, and I really do appreciate the offer. It's both kind, and goes well beyond the call of duty! I must say though that I am quite happy with the BlueSCSI, and can work around the wake-from-sleep problem as long as there's no risk to the device or the computer if left as it is. The...

    BlueSCSI v2 on PB170

Thanks!!! Sadly I lack the motor skills to safely wield a soldering iron, so the next obvious question is: If the BlueSCSI is left as is, aside from the wake from sleep problem remaining, are there any other damaging or problematic consequences to either the BlueSCSI itself or the PB when it is...

    BlueSCSI v2 on PB170

Reviving my own thread, but I recently swapped out the original HD in my 145B with the (early production?) v2 BlueSCSI which I had bought early last year for the 170, but never used. I used a Disk Jockey created 500Mb blank image, and installed Mac OS 7.1 from a set of floppy disks, opting for...

I Need Advice-Taking A Web Page Layout And Converting It To A Functioning Site

There's EverWeb (Everwebapp.com) which is pretty simple to use and close to full WYSIWYG, and it used to be free with some restrictions on publishing options for the site, or paid-for with no restrictions. It might be worth looking at it to see if this is capable of what you want.

PowerBook 160 - New owner here

I have a few 100 series PowerBooks, and none have had problems with the logic board. A 180 had a faulty RAM expansion board which gave sad mac chimes but it booted normally with out it, and a 160 that lit up, but didn't chime or start booting, which turned out to be a failed hard drive. Also a...

PowerBook 160 - New owner here

You can buy a cheap ($10) power adapter from Amazon that should do the trick. I have 2 of these... https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07WT32GNK/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and they work fine. 7.5v 2a, centre-positive. With a power adapter, then it'll be a question of what...

Thoughts On The Global Tech Outage?

Partly it’s the media being intellectually lazy when reporting on things they don’t understand all that well, but when a major event like this crashes Windows systems but not macOS or Linux, even though it’s not simply a Microsoft/Windows problem, they are not being entirely unfair in reporting...

I Got An M3 MacBook Pro; Obsolescence Forced My Hand

Or.... you could run something like Basilisk II or Sheepshaver, and a pleasant MacOS 7 variant, then you could use Word 5.1 or 6 - files are directly readable in LibreOffice. You could even use DOSBox-x and put Word 5.5 for DOS on there! No hint of cloud nonsense in either of those!

    I've Done A Crazy Thing-I Bought A Clamshell iBook

I used to drool over the selection of clamshells in my local Sears when they were new, but couldn't afford one. The coolest computers around. I finally bought one a few years ago - a graphite 366 (I wish I'd have picked a Tangerine though!) - and it's a delight to use for distraction free...

Urgent answer needed, 800kb floppy disks in 1.44mb floppy drive?

Driver software for many printers is still out there, and macintoshgarden.org along with the Macintosh Repository (https://www.macintoshrepository.org/) are excellent sources for a lot of software and driver resources. For a PB 170, you'll typically need an appropriate connecting cable of...

Urgent answer needed, 800kb floppy disks in 1.44mb floppy drive?

Pretty sure that amongst us all here, we'd be able to rustle up good duplicates of a suitable set of MacOS floppies for the 170, even if those don't turn out to be suitable. The full 7.1 installer pack I have is only 11 1.4Mb floppies, and that includes the 2 'update 3.0' disks. Of course if...

NeXT Station Color Collection for sale

I have regretted every instance where I have parted with an old system which had been of importance to me. I've not typically sold them, but given them away, and really knew I should have kept them all. That includes a PB 170, SE, LC475 and G4 iMac. On the other hand, I bought a PB1400/117 new...

Urgent answer needed, 800kb floppy disks in 1.44mb floppy drive?

Not sure about the specific set of floppies you're looking at, but the pack I have (and the 7.0.1 installer set on my FloppyEMU is the same too) boot up to an install dialog where you pick either an overall 'all systems' installation of 7.0.1 or one for a specific system. There is also an option...

    Any interest in Palm Pilots?

I still use my IIIxe as a datebook/todo list manager, because it's always with me - and syncs with the desktop app on my Performa 630. Beats every other organizer/PIM I've tried, including Newtons (too big), Psion (needlessly complex) and CE devices like my HP Jornada (cool, but too slow). I...

    Any interest in Palm Pilots?

I had one of the original ones, and used it for a few years in preference to many of the alternatives, including Apple Newton (still have a 130). I bought a couple of later models, but always preferred the original - and still have it in good working order. My Palm of choice was the IIIxe - I...
