Color CRT that fits in Macintosh SE FDHD?

that’s basically what a stock Color Classic is. And that’s why it’s so painfully slow.

The great LCD in a Color Classic thread. Well, I wish...

Thanks for adding the photo. So it seems the LCD offers a bit more brightness than the CRT set to its upper brightness level. That’s good to hear.

Yes, I’ve been pondering that lower weight benefit quite a lot actually. It worries me to pick it up only by the top handle, so I’m always very careful to put my left hand under the machine when moving it around. On top of that, the LCD makes the pixels perfect — not a 640x480 “native...

Color CRT that fits in Macintosh SE FDHD?

Very interesting! That article says he heated a 6mm thick acrylic sheet with a hot air gun and then laid it over the glass CRT (apparently to reshape the sheet into the form factor of the CRT) and later he trimmed off the excess.

Color CRT that fits in Macintosh SE FDHD?

Well, that's one way to "get color" inside a Mac Plus or Mac SE case! :-) I do think your use of the CRT glass is novel. You put a bad CRT to good use, which otherwise would have just be disposed of! But you probably needed something other than a Dremel to cleanly cut the glass like that...

Sony CR44 PSU from Mac SE - Left on with no load over night

In that case, none of those temperatures are "hot." If you have an oscilloscope, it would be good to see what is going on with the output voltages. I know what your multi-meter says, but seeing the waveforms might prove interesting. Even so, you may not have a scope, and that is fine too...

Apple Studio Display M7649 CCFL to LED conversion

I tried that, but it has zero effect. When you run your fingers over the screen, it feels like an oil painting. The surface is permanently deformed. It's strange because while in storage, nothing physically touched the display at all. It was packed inside the original Apple Box, with...

Apple Studio Display M7649 CCFL to LED conversion

@jeffburg Is there no hope for vinegar syndrome displays? If not, do they serve any good use, such as for "donor parts"?

Thank you very much for the added info, @daanvdl . So in regards to my question No. 4, which I revisited in my previous post too, it would seem that displaying 800x600 with a compatible 68K motherboard is not possible, as per the fact you offer 12-inch mode or 13-inch mode exclusively. As...

Apple Studio Display M7649 CCFL to LED conversion

I have two of the 17" and one of the 22" — all used with my two G4 Cubes in the past. Sadly, I left the 23" inside its original box for too long in a room that wasn't climate-controlled and it developed vinegar syndrome. I noticed that for the first time this year, in fact. So terribly...

Sony CR44 PSU from Mac SE - Left on with no load over night

The resistors won't matter unless they are visually browned or blackened with heat. The the black IC151 board shown was said to be hot, at 112°C, but I think that is normal... IC251 probably shouldn't be hitting 100°C (unless all your measurements were °F, and in that case, it would be...

Color CRT that fits in Macintosh SE FDHD?

Thanks for chiming in, ZZJ! I'm embarrassed to say that you've told me that before, about the lack of Color QuickDraw in ROM. My memory is horrific! 🥺

    Se/30 c6 cap lead lifted

Some people who are much more adept at SMD work than I am go so far as remove entire SMD chips to clean leaked fluid beneath them, but I've not gone that far. Dunking the board is safer for me! 😅 But yes, pouring a lot of IPA atop the board is helpful too. Not quite as effective at breaking...

Color CRT that fits in Macintosh SE FDHD?

The @zigzagjoe LCD Color Kit for the SE/30 is not compatible with the SE because PDS slots differ, and the computer architecture is different too. Even if a graphics card could be made for the SE, I doubt if the machine itself has the ability to effectively drive color video through its PDS...

    Se/30 c6 cap lead lifted

Meaning, you submerge the entire board in 99% IPA? If so, that's what I do when I need to give the entire board a cleaning, usually to get rid of leaked capacitor fluid. I am filming a new video about recapping the LC520 motherboard, and I will dunk that one after my new capacitors are...

Faster Baud and More Serial Ports (CSI Hurdler, SerialDMA, QuadraLink)

He sure is. David is absolutely brilliant and a very kind person too. Thanks for being an important part of this forum, David! Meaning, the "practical use case" is "file transfers." I appreciate that. When transferring via SERIAL between 2 vintage Macs with serial ports, by way of David's...

    Se/30 c6 cap lead lifted

Buying a syringe of FLUX helps alot when soldering. It helps to ensure your joints are sound. Yes, it gets super messy with flux, and even though it can be left on the board, it's best to clean it off so it won't become a dust magnet, but it makes solder flow into tiny areas you never thought...

Thank you so much for your time in answering! I do want to give you more info about the following point though... I have done the 68.4V VGA Mod in the past (currently, I've switched to the 84V 13" High Resolution Mod). The 68.4V VGA mod actually gives you the choice of 640x480 (at 60Hz) or...
