Molar Mac (Power Macintosh G3) Upgrades!

Yeah, that's what I thought. I believe 3rd party upgrade makers released G4 daughtercards for them. Not sure about the molar specifically, but other PM G3s and G4s.

Molar Mac (Power Macintosh G3) Upgrades!

Isn't the Molar Mac's CPU socketed?

Molar Mac (Power Macintosh G3) Upgrades!

Plenty of choices. CD drive can be replaced with a DVD drive, SATA card, FireWire/USB card. Lots of stuff to do! You can never have enough upgrades.

    Tunnel vision on PB170

Sorry, forgot to post an update on that. Yes, indeed it does! It begins around 20 minutes after it starts running, an interestingly it’s the inverted kind, so you can actually still see stuff in the affected areas.

Adobe Illustrator - Latest RENT FREE version for Tiger?

Internet activation started with CS2 actually, but since the activation servers for CS2 through 4 shut down it appears that Adobe released internet-free versions that have since been uploaded to archive sites.

Adobe Illustrator - Latest RENT FREE version for Tiger?

With CS2, CS3 and CS4 I've never had to take the system offline. It's always just worked fine, not sure why when everyone says to disable internet before installing.

Adobe Illustrator - Latest RENT FREE version for Tiger?

CS4 didn’t officially support G4s (although it will run I believe) and CS3 wouldn’t run well at all on a 466, CS2 would definitely work better. It’s available on the garden as well as archive.org https://archive.org/details/adobe-creative-suite-2 I believe there is a standalone Illustrator CS2...

    Tunnel vision on PB170

I’ll have another test subject coming in next week - I just bought a grayscale PowerBook 540 off of eBay. It supposedly works so we’ll see whether it has Tunnel Vision or not.

Massive Vintage Apple Haul in Idaho

That's so cool, great find! That 840av is likely worth a good bit of cash working, they are considered to be the fastest of the 68k Macs as far as I'm aware.

Looking for flex cables to recreate

I recently got around to removing the damaged cable from my 5300ce display, and it appears only 3 or 4 traces have been damaged by the tear. It would probably be fixable but I would need someone with an intact cable to do some continuity testing. It's pretty complicated as well, so I'm pretty...

    The 17" WUXGA PowerBook G4

Well, finding a 15" compatible panel shouldn't be an issue anymore because I just got an example of the 17" variant of the DLSD in from Mercari today! Even though the stock display is really nice already, I'm really temped to go for the upgrade anyway. I'll have to look at a disassembly guide...

Grid 1 REVIEW — iPhone 2G Wall Art

Yeah, they're no good as phones anymore, but with a bit of work jailbreaking & unlocking them, you can easily sideload old apps and games onto them. With a battery replacement (which mine really needed), they end up as great devices for early iOS games. The legacy iOS community is pretty small...

Grid 1 REVIEW — iPhone 2G Wall Art

Forgive me for not quite understanding these types of things, but wouldn't the good condition shell and outer parts go to better use to fix up a beat up 2G instead of sitting unused on a wall? Especially since the 2Gs get scratched up so easily. Yes, they look really cool, but it just feels like...

How to only load desktop files from the boot partition?

I just got my 3400c set up with a 4 OS quad-boot of Mac OS 7.6.1, 8.1, 8.5, and 9.1. The problem is that each OS loads all of the desktop files from each partition. Is there any way to make it only load the file from the partition it’s booted off of?

What are your vintage grail items?

Recap, recap recap! You've got it working now, but if you don't change the caps it won't be for long! I'm assuming you've also removed the battery of course.

    PowerBook 165c

The display caps should be through-holes on this model. They can leak and replacing them is never a bad idea, but it isn’t mission critical like the surface mount ones are. Techknight did a restoration video on one of these recently, here’s like link: EDIT: Figured I'd add that his inverter...

    PowerBook 100 Sad Mac 0000000E 0000FF00 Fix

From what we're seeing in newer systems from the late 90s (which are now as old as SE/30s from the 80s were when they started to leak), they do still end up failing sometimes, but less often, and they seem to dry out and not leak. Certain types still do leak though, the original Xbox's CMOS...
