    Snooper serial loopback plug

Success! Thanks to the serial loop back plug giving me a clue, I found several broken traces around UG12 that solved the problem for the SE/30 that failed the handshake tests. I wrote about the experience in thread 'Macintosh SE Won't Boot System 7'...

Macintosh SE Won't Boot System 7

I’ll share my recently-successful adventure on the same problem, @rjkucia. Perhaps this will help. I have an SE/30 that boots fine under 6.0.8 and the 7.1 installed on the Rominator II. However, it hangs during the boot process with 7.1.1 and 7.5.3 drives installed on a BlueSCSI that work just...

    Snooper serial loopback plug

I made a serial loopback plug with a mini DIN plug I bought from Amazon and using the instructions provided by Bruce @Branchus earlier in the thread. The serial loopback plug worked great! I am troubleshooting two problematic SE/30s which have various minor problems. One failed the modem baud...

iMac G3 I/O port cover source?

I’ve had a saved search on eBay running for about six months with no luck so far. Good to know that it is possible, so we will continue to wait.

Macintosh SE Won't Boot System 7

I have a similar boot failure problem with one of my SE/30’s, which boots fine under 6.0.8 but hangs during boot with 7.1 and 7.5 with a hard disk that boots another SE/30 just fine. Interestingly the System 7.1 included on the Rominator II boots my problematic SE/30 just fine whether from the...

BlueSCSI - Open, Low Cost, DIY SCSI to SD device

I got one of those DB25 male-female extender thingies recommended by Bruce @Branchus to clear the case lip on my Centris 650, and it worked like a charm. Thanks for the suggestion, Bruce, and many thanks again to @eric for the design!

Member Bio - Joe Williams (rikerjoe)

Hi everyone! I’ve been lurking in the background for a few weeks, contributing here and there, and decide it is time I introduce myself. I also frequent the vintage Macintosh forums on FaceBook, and you’ll also see me in the chat in a few YouTube channels, which I’ll talk about later. By day...

    Source for RAM?

Haha, yes @Kai Robinson! I should have been clearer and said “build your own” 16MB SIMMs

    Source for RAM?

I’ve used Memory Masters via eBay for my classic Macintosh memory needs with no issues. The roll-your-own solution that @Kai Robinson mentioned is very tempting, if only there were 16 MB SIMMS available….

    2008 iMac 24” Restoration Journey

Regarding the GPU bake solution, that is targeted to a particular subset of iMacs with specific GPUs in the 2009-2011 era, right? My 2008 iMac shows no signs of graphics problems necessitating a bake. I'm wondering if the blank screen problem that @KingDingus is describing is due to another...

BlueSCSI - Open, Low Cost, DIY SCSI to SD device

Sure, @eric. I attached a couple of photos. As you can see, the lip on a Centris 650 is rather thick, about 1/2 inch. The BlueSCSI case notch is not big enough to allow the BlueSCSI to plug into the SCSI port. I included a pic with the BlueSCSI case removed, which shows no problem. I figure...

BlueSCSI - Open, Low Cost, DIY SCSI to SD device

I wedged the assembled board at an angle starting from the back, and avoided the problems noted in the previous posts. My only minor issue is the same as the SCSI2SD 5.5 in its case - for both, there is inadequate clearance on the bottom front to plug into the external SCSI port on a Centris...
