    Einstein, the NewtonOS Emulator

Over the past couple of months, we’ve been fighting with a bunch of renegade edits to the Einstein wiki. I thought that the current version of the page was cleaned up, but I should’ve checked those links prior to copying and pasting. The wiki page has been fixed and I updated the links in my...

    Einstein, the NewtonOS Emulator

I’ve played with it since it was first demonstration at the Worldwide Newton Conference in 2006. It doesn’t require an installer, as the current release has precompiled binaries for Windows, macOS, and Linux. https://github.com/pguyot/Einstein/wiki Matthias Melcher, one of the developers...

    eMate ROM question

These were PCMCIA adapter cards made by a Canadian company called EZShow Systems. There were two variations of the card sporting different output options, the EZ2VGA and the EZ2TV. They work with MessagePad 2x00 devices as well. https://newtonglossary.com/terms/ez2vga...

    eMate ROM question

Not a hoarder, per se … but I do have a shelf full of eMates. They’re all functional, so no donors unfortunately. However, I do know of someone with a significant stash of parts and such. I’ll DM the details.

Picked up an Apple Newton eMate 300! 😃

Found it. DM your mailing address and I’ll pop it into the post for you. I checked for an extra Newton Press manual as well, but no such luck. You can get the PDF version from these fine sites: http://www.unna.org/view.php?/apple/software/NewtonPress/ForMac https://www.newted.org/manuals/

Picked up an Apple Newton eMate 300! 😃

The Newton platform can support colour, albeit via third party tools. For example, using an EZ2TV card, the Newton could display color images on an external monitor. http://web.archive.org/web/20091021223950/http://geocities.com/doctor_clu/EZ2TV.html

Apple eMate 300 Expansion Module (Open Source / Open Hardware Project)

Oops. Just saw Mikeyy00’s reply regarding NCX. I’ve recently taken over management of the Newton Research site from the developer (Simon Bell) and have access to his archive of old software releases and source.

Newton Connection for Mac OS X (NCX) works over serial and ethernet under Snow Leopard and later. I can probably dig up an older version that work under Tiger and Leopard. I use an FTDI serial to USB adapter cable for both my eMates and MP2x00 devices.

Apple TechStep Replacement ROMs, cartridges, software, and more!

In other news, I just realized why I never got very far tinkering with my TechSteps … they all came with 240v adapters and I didn’t get around to digging a compatible 120v version out of my bins. For completeness sake, does anybody have a spare 120v TechStep adapter to trade for a 240v?

I hadn’t looked at my copies of volume 2 and 3 for a very long time and this discussion got me wondering if they were water damaged as well … fortunately, they’re in near perfect condition. Whew.
