From what I recall, the 2400/240 model officially supported CardBus, and considering that the machine has its CPU on a daughtercard, I'd be *really* surprised if Apple bothered to redesign the motherboard just for that feature. Architecturally, the 2400 and 3400 are similar, and the 3400 also...

The adapter provides power to the 2.5" drive, and does indeed "move" the SCSI ID jumpers to the adapter's PCB. Here's a shot of the adapter connected to a drive; the SCSI jumpers are on the right and the power input is on the left.

I know that SE/30s can be *very* picky about RAM. I had a similar problem with mine, and was only able to resolve it through a lot of experimenting with different RAM combinations. The ideal scenario is to have all 8 slots populated with identical modules.
