Breaking the 36MB RAM limit on the LCIII

    Fabulous, max!

    MicroMac Power Workstation

Yep, what kind of switch setup remains the question. WAG would be simple rotary any one of three or the likes of a SCSI ID push button switch selection of same. I wonder if someone with logic analyzer might yank on one of the two "unsupported" interrupt lines to determine if the CPU takes...

    MicroMac Power Workstation

I see you have only the jumper for Slot 4 enabled. That's likely for the accelerator . Are the other three selected for use of one card at a time? Does a cable plug only into the other three headers and if so, what kind of switch setup?

    MicroMac Power Workstation

Great, when I feel up to it, I'll detail a couple of methods to go about doing a life mask of that beautiful thing.

    MicroMac Power Workstation

IIRC, there are three interrupts on the LC PDS, but the PDS docs asy tha only one is supported, so that wouldn't be a lack of physical connectors. Read another way, you could be right, the three interrupts might be supportable in additional slots? I wonder if someone figured out how to map...

    MicroMac Power Workstation

@KennyPowers are you in the US? Making a plaster cast, negative mold of that front bezel would be a fabulous project! I like that your dad had a removable drive cage set up in his server, that kind of thing was right up my alley back then. ;) Is the surface of the case smooth or textured?

Accelerators don't tie up the Slot E interrupt of the LC PDS or any other PDS in any other Mac. The Accelerator is the computer (CPU) that needs to be interrupted to service the expansion card as I understand it. In at least one of the expansion chassis implementations, the multiple cards are...

Upgrading IIsi onboard RAM to 4MB

Interesting question. I'm going to say it's not likely because one of the first things the IIsi does at startup is to poll the sense lines on the video connector. If a monitor is detected, a portion of Bank A is buffered for use as Vampire Video's VRAM. If none is detected, the system...

Extended mode 1-bit video on second display for compact Macs

Shipping product is the art of the possible. Engineers did what was possible with available technology in the face of incredible wrongheadedness on the part of SJ and shipped what the Mac should have been at release but for Scully hamstringing memory just a few months later. Better to develop a...

Extended mode 1-bit video on second display for compact Macs

Moved from other thread: Your small controller board would have to be the equivalent of a VidCard with driver to enable the CPU to load its frame buffer. At that point RAMDAC converts it to analog video signal on the mobo connector? I think this is wrong though, see below: PowerR is a baseline...

Grid 1 REVIEW — iPhone 2G Wall Art

Looks like a great way to decorate a wall AND keep nasty electronics out of landfill burial sites. The parts themselves won't lose value on display in the case that collectors ever do want to buy them off your wall for restoration work. The frame looks eminently re-usable for other...

Found a Neat Mod From Back in The Day in My 128k

Ancient history, but yeah, 128K board came in with the same package type so did the soldered header install. Stock 128K boards were all but useless electronics waste back then and don't get any better when downgraded to pseudo-original status now. If it's been upgraded its a Mac, if it's at 128K...

Found a Neat Mod From Back in The Day in My 128k

1977 brought Carter-StagFlation-Oil Embargoes etc. I wonder if much of that differential happened across just the first few of the intervening 13 Years? There's little comparison between 6502/68K periods and today that makes much sense. @Stephen have you refined your design since we last talked...

Found a Neat Mod From Back in The Day in My 128k

Yep, did just that. When I got a NewLife board for my 512K I found its CPU package was Killy Klip incompatible so I got a dirt cheap 128K board from Shreve to keep the 512K safe from harm. Soldered it up and chickened out. Took it over to my buddies at Tekserve to test it out. They gave it back...

$3,000 in 1990 is worth $6,801.32 today ;) https://www.in2013dollars.com/us/inflation/1990?amount=3000 High end computer: IIfx/4/40 cost $9,900 in 1990. That would set you back $22,444.37 today.

DuoDock Power Supply issue (Un-solved agin)

Yep, mine too. Pop rivets knitting it back together look good in white. :p Posted that fix link for reference. Unfortunately such doesn't appear to be a solution here unless higher capacity caps might do the trick? Inadequate capacitance doesn't bode well for longevity in a PSU.

    128K/512K Rechambered

Forgot all about those! How hard would it be to dumb that design down to 128K/512K status for playtime? Working assumption here is that the less than Plus Compacts are thin on the ground and a bit too precious to hack. A Plus isn't nearly so hard to find and dedicating one for rechambered fun...

How much of the 128K/512K hardware has been reverse engineered?

Again: Mac Plus is the perfect platform for this insanity, who hasn't got one to spare? If you have two, but no spare, put 'em in a dark closet for a couple of months. :p How many of a Plus donor board's components would be drop-ins for insane 128K/512K Rechambered notion? Moved this tangent...
