BLAZING. FAST. MAC. The Performer PDS 68030 Accelerator by MacEffects!

NEW BENCHMARKS I ran Speedometer 3.23 on my stock SE/30 just now, since my Machine Record file didn't have SE/30 scores. Stock SE/30: Stock SE/30 (left) versus Performer-SE (no XTAL added, CPU=FPU=16MHz): Stock SE/30 (left) versus Performer-SE (with 33MHz FPU XTAL): CONCLUSIONS...

BLAZING. FAST. MAC. The Performer PDS 68030 Accelerator by MacEffects!

Very interesting. Thank you for confirming that I am not losing my mind. I would have thought a doubling of clock speed would result in a far bigger boost to FPU benchmark scores, but your own tests show that to not be the case.

BLAZING. FAST. MAC. The Performer PDS 68030 Accelerator by MacEffects!

I also have a Performer-SE from MacEffects and have been testing it on my SE, both with and without an optional Crystal Oscillator. Results are as follows, inline with the results from @Ron's Computer Videos : JDW's TESTS JDW's Speedometer 3.23 Test (No FPU XTAL, stock 16MHz operation)...

Battery damaged SE 30 help needed

So you repaired that broken trace and the vertical lines shown in your photo vanished, correct?

    New to Me Mac SE/30

A good start would be classic games like Dark Castle and Prince of Persia and Spectrum Holobyte Tetris, not to mention Lode Runner. Then move on to Utility apps like Norton Utilities 3.5, SCSI Director Pro 4.0, and Speedometer 3.23. There are so many utilities though. I probably have more...

Battery damaged SE 30 help needed

I took another look at your CRT photo, from your opening post. I've seen horizontal lines before with an iffy ROM socket, but not thin vertical lines. Those thin vertical lines very well could be RAM related. I realize you have good, new RAM SIMMs, so I am not suggesting those SIMMs are bad...

Battery damaged SE 30 help needed

No activity from A(0) coming from the ROM SIMM? Even with sufficiently thick ROM SIMMs, some boards warp over time. @Kay K.M.Mods posted some excellent info about that here: https://tinkerdifferent.com/threads/smc-rom-simm-prototype.2198/post-19023

    120GB SSDs in G4 Cube

I have to admit, I got burned out after my earlier failure with something that was supposed to work but didn't. I'll probably give it another shot when at least two or three more people have used the same method (either that from @Scorpio_ny or that from @jasperman . Right now, the stock...

    New to Me Mac SE/30

I personally use a beefed up S7.1 install most of the time, with a fallback to System 6.0.x (via System Picker app) when I have the need for speed. @eric shows how to add 7.5.5 Functionality to 7.1: https://erichelgeson.github.io/blog/2021/03/23/ultimate-system-7.1/ Eric doesn’t talk about...

Battery damaged SE 30 help needed

Welcome to TinkerDifferent! I read through your Reddit link comments and was surprised to see that not a single person mentioned the ROM SOCKET as being the possible culprit here. Now with that said, it seems you had a lot of damage on the board, so I cannot say if there isn't something else...

    Massive Haul in Calgary, Alberta

And checking it twice? Are we gonna find out who's been naughty or nice? Looks like Santa really is comin' to town! 🎅 Pardon my humor. I really do think those photos are incredible. I look forward to seeing the itemized listing of goodies for sale, especially if the pricing is kind toward...

    Apple Keyboard M0116 recap

I deyellowed that Apple M0116 keyboard back in 2019 and also swapped the two capacitors out for tantalums at that time. My writeup is found here: https://68kmla.org/bb/index.php?threads/retrobright-effect-from-uv-alone-no-additives.5806/page-4#post-357699 I'm upset with myself for not having...

Macintosh IIci - No chime or video after recapping. Any ideas?

@fred1212 Glad to hear your machine is up and working. Doing those SMD solder job Reloaded boards is no small task, so I can see why Will is currently the only guy out there doing them. It's going to be a sad day for many when and if he stops, assuming no experienced and reliable person is...

    Microscope recommendations

Quite a bit better than the cheap one I have, which I got on AliExpress a few years ago for only $50. 4K would be nice to have.

    New to Me Mac SE/30

I appreciate your kind word. Email notifications of replies to threads like this one help me do that. And if the notification comes at the right time, I can fire off a response pretty quickly. I like to do that because I know if I put it off until a later time, I might be so busy I won't...

WarpSE: 25 MHz 68HC000-based accelerator for Mac SE

I tested it today but found HeapTool 1.4 doesn't resolve the low memory issue that triggers the error message in SCSI Director Pro 4.0. The author of HeapTool made it for System 6 and says it "probably" wouldn't have any meaning under System 7 due to the way 7 handles the heap in a much better...
