Everything you wanted to know about the BBU, but were afraid to ask...

At NASA, @trag was responsible for interrogating a highly advanced alien race who came to earth through what scientists call "a dent in in the universe," desperately seeking knowledge about why Apple computers are so delightfully different.

Bourns Again - Bourns 601 Series RC Network T-Filters Replacement

My SE Reloaded Part II video is where I solder in the 4 Bourns filters, so if you would be willing to kindly help out the community with the sale of 4 or 8pcs at a time, feel free to post a comment under that video and I will make it a pinned comment for people to perpetually see. I feel that is...

problem with MicroMac accelerator in SE

Not sure one can do that kind of fix right without proper magnification. Honestly, I wish I could afford one of those amazing dual optic microscopes that Bruce and Mac84 use. Those are amazing, but so is the price tag! I don't do teensy tiny SMD work for a living, so I cannot justify that...

WarpSE: 25 MHz 68HC000-based accelerator for Mac SE

For those of you who don't know, I accidentally put my beloved Daystar Turbo040 into the topmost PDS slot of the TS Adapter instead of the Cache slot on the side. That caused a short in at least one place and fried a chip. Amazingly, Joethezombie was able to source that chip, shipped some to...

WarpSE: 25 MHz 68HC000-based accelerator for Mac SE

I normally use this 100% (not 99.9%) version sold on Amazon Japan: https://www.amazon.co.jp/-/en/gp/product/B009GE3YH2 But for the bathroom dunking shown in my Part III video, I did use this 99.9% stuff: https://www.amazon.co.jp/-/en/gp/product/B0B1M8SK8N/ No, there's no noticeable difference...

WarpSE: 25 MHz 68HC000-based accelerator for Mac SE

Thankfully 100% (not that weak 99% stuff 🤣) IPA did wonders to get flux off my SE Reloaded board. As you can see here, I used a toothbrush and soaked it for a half hour. Plastic parts seemed to have come through just fine. I was a tad worried about the electrolytic capacitors (you don't want to...

Apple TechStep Replacement ROMs, cartridges, software, and more!

I should have used different wording, sorry. Glad you didn't take it the wrong way. What I should have typed: The more people involved in actually building this project the merrier! Kudos, Gavin!

Apple TechStep Replacement ROMs, cartridges, software, and more!

Looks fantastic! The fact that we now have folks like yourself building cartridges makes this project all the more exciting!

Logic Board - Macintosh SE Reloaded

I am continuing the technical discussion about the split Ground Plane over at the EEVBLOG thread.

Logic Board - Macintosh SE Reloaded

Separate topic... I did my first power on test of the SE Reloaded board while filming. To my delight, I got a display, the arrow pointer, the flashing disk icon, and the startup bong. However, the bong is longer than normal as shown in the short video clip below. I've heard a similar...

Logic Board - Macintosh SE Reloaded

Now that I can understand, with the inductors acting as chokes on the ground. But the SE board only has that single trace from what I can see, which is rather odd, don't you think?

Logic Board - Macintosh SE Reloaded

Yes, "chassis" or "metal frame" ground is supposed to be Earth ground, which requires a 3-prong power cord. Sadly, here in Japan, 3-prong outlets are extremely rare in most homes. It doesn't affect normal operation of the Mac, of course. It just means chassis ground isn't Earth ground.

Logic Board - Macintosh SE Reloaded

@retr01 The metal chassis of the compact Macs, and the metal bar on the motherboards, provides both mounting stability and ground. Your hands will come in contact with the metal chassis, so ensuring all those metal parts are grounded is needed for safety. It's no different on your car, where...

Logic Board - Macintosh SE Reloaded

@Kay K.M.Mods knows more about that. As I am sure you saw recently in his post here, he has experience in both plating and painting. (Earlier in that thread he shows photos of how neat a black chassis looks too.)

Logic Board - Macintosh SE Reloaded

Holy cow! That's a seriously battery-bombed board. Well, I must say that even though mine wasn't that far gone, such that I was able to remove the rust and continue using it, having a brand new replacement would have saved me hours of time. And for people in your shoes (which no doubt are...

Logic Board - Macintosh SE Reloaded

It comes in contact with the metal chassis and provides a solid chassis ground. It also adds mounting stability to the motherboard, although with the back case on that may not be a major issue. BTW, if you have a photo of your rust-eaten metal bracket, I'd love to see it.

Logic Board - Macintosh SE Reloaded

Folks, there's a discussion here about Bourns filter replacements, which has expanded to replacements for the metal bracket and for the plastic mounts for the Reset & Programmer's switches here. Please check it.

Bourns Again - Bourns 601 Series RC Network T-Filters Replacement

Holy cow! That's incredibly useful info! Thank you for posting that! I covered the 2032 battery in my video series, explaining it would get less battery life than the original, which is partly why I deliberately installed the stock holder instead of a CR2032 holder. So long as one could get...

Bourns Again - Bourns 601 Series RC Network T-Filters Replacement

Thank you for sharing those detailed thoughts, gentlemen. Because the Reloaded build costs more in time and money than a $140 SE board sold on EBAY, I mention that fact in my videos, suggesting people think of it instead as a thrilling project whereby they are building the heart and soul of a...

Bourns Again - Bourns 601 Series RC Network T-Filters Replacement

The reason I asked about your excess PCBs is twofold. First, my video series on the SE Reloaded project has given me knowledge about replacement chips. For example, @max1zzz created a replacement for the ROM chips. Kai created replacements for the ADB and SWIM. And of course you created...
