SCSI cable folds - to cut or not to cut

This is the new 20cm cable I ordered, for £3.84: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/394893125750 As long as the blade is kept in line and lower than 45 degrees, it follows the depression line in the cable while cutting. As you can see here, a full twist can be achieved much more easily with this sliced...

SCSI cable folds - to cut or not to cut

Before pic. The peak of this fold rises up very high, allowing only just enough length remaining to plug this into the motherboard.

Copying legacy software from internet repositories to 68k Macs

I use the BlueSCSI v2 DaynaPort SCSI Ethernet emulation via WiFi. Then I connect to the Macintosh Garden FTP using Fetch. If you inspect an FTP URL from the download links you can determine the credentials used. Fetch is incapable of navigating the folder tree since the top level folders...

SCSI cable folds - to cut or not to cut

Well I've ordered a new cable from Shenzhen for a few pounds, to cut up. I will post photos.

SCSI cable folds - to cut or not to cut

The BlueSCSI v2 needs to be mounted upside down for best placement of the Raspberry Pi Pico W WiFi antenna - otherwise it would be up against the metal drive cage. So it needs one full twist of the SCSI ribbon, which is what made me think of slitting the cable.

    Compact Mac carry bag restoration

ChatGPT suggests, based on my description, that it's likely a polyurethane (PU) coating on that lining fabric which has hydrolized. May have served as a moisture barrier. It's not too optimistic of a simple cleanup, rather suggesting replacement of the lining. That would be pretty tricky since...

    Compact Mac carry bag restoration

I was lucky enough to get one of the official carry bags with my Macintosh SE/30 but it's got some sort of material rot problem where it's shedding black powder on anything I put inside. It has a tear at one of the seams and through this I can see that the main white foam padding layer is fine...

SCSI cable folds - to cut or not to cut

I'm certain I have seen official Macintosh internal SCSI cables with multiple slits in them to ease folding and cable routing, and even for improving airflow. In my own SE/30 I have to put two 45 degree folds in my SCSI cable and can only just do this. Would slitting the cable help in this...

Mac Plus - BlueSCSI - Disk Jockey and Error 0F000A

Try different SD cards would be my suggestion. The first few I tried (old low capacity ones from a drawer, because I figured they only need to sustain 10MB/sec) sort of worked fine. They'd boot but then I'd install something and then I'd get the boot question mark floppy. These cards had worked...

Not enough power for Blue SCSI Wifi

No. The dummy SD part of it was a bit tight in the board's SD socket, but it's fine. I had a lot of corruption issues with certain bad SD cards though - before I bought the extension. I put that down to them being very low spec though, old small capacity ones I had in a drawer (2GB, 4GB). It's...

Not enough power for Blue SCSI Wifi

I have an SE/30 and when I first tested my BlueSCSI v2 I thought I would need the Berg connector because the text file log on the SD card reported slightly under the target voltage. I bought a Berg connector and then discovered the exact same voltage was reported, so I don't bother connecting...

    Beyond Dark Castle animated fireplace

I've noticed that on the Mac SE/30 the fireplace on the title screen of Beyond Dark Castle is not animated when idle. When the game starts the animation is fine. The idle fireplace animation is fine on the 68000 models of Macintosh. I noticed there was a slightly newer build of the game on...

System 7.0.1 missing icons in file requestors

Good point. I've gone back and installed the initial release of 7.1 and the boot time is identical to 7.0.1. However, the file requestor missing icon problem is still there. 😞 But then I applied System Update 3.0 (intended for 7.1, 7.1.1 Pro, and 7.1.2) and it fixed it! :) Reading through the...

System 7.0.1 missing icons in file requestors

I tried the pre-made OpenRaSCSI 7.1.1 image that is part of a big bundle on the BlueSCSI site and it seems quite a bit slower to boot than 7.0.1.

System 7.0.1 missing icons in file requestors

It's an SE/30 so I flip between 6.0.8 for games, and 7.0.1 for apps. I find 7.5.3 is already so much slower to start. But I have unpacked the OpenRaSCSI pre-made build of 7.0.1 and that exhibits this issue - so I don't think my install is corrupted. Does this bug not manifest for you? As I...

System 7.0.1 missing icons in file requestors

I have noticed what I think is a bug in System 7.0.1. In file requestors, many folders are missing their icons (SimpleText in these screenshots, but Word also shows this). I vaguely remember this irritating me 30 years ago, but wanted to check if others have this issue. I have confirmed with...
