I used a different, but similar mount and had to order a longer SCSI cable. I don't think there's any way to get the original SCSI cable to reach.

FYI, I did get some fresh batteries in there and for the PRAM voltage up to 4.8, so I don't think it's a problem with the PRAM battery. Interestingly, I seem unable to zap the PRAM now, as I can hold down the Cmd-Opt-P-R and do not get a second boot chime.

Yeah, the little adapters that allow you to put a CR2032 battery in the existing PRAM battery slot would be ideal, because it's not modifying the board, but giving you the same benefit of not worrying about battery leakage...
