Was looking for something in the basement today and forgot I had this. Anyone used one before? Is it stable or is it as precarious as pictures make it look? Suppose I should put it under my SE and find out :)

I built this in our backyard shortly after moving into our house a few years ago. The tall fence keeps the deer out, and I've since added chicken wire around the base to keep smaller critters out. Used the cap stones from an old retaining wall we had just replaced around the edge, and then some...

So the FPU arrived, I installed it, reassembled the machine, and fired it up. It was...flaky. Random, inconsistent instruction and bus errors, etc. Finally narrowed it down the 16MB of RAM I'd replaced the original 4MB on the accelerator with. I put the original four 1MB SIMMs back in, and...

I loaded this thing up with 16MB of RAM and was about to put the machine back together for some benchmarks when that big empty FPU socket was staring at me. So, I ordered a 68882 off ebay...ETA March 8th-14th. I guess it's sat on my shelf for a year...I can wait a week or two more to play with...

Should I dump the ROM from this accelerator? The EPROM is an Atmel AT27C512R, which is apparently supported by my programmer: http://www.autoelectric.cn/MiniPro/TL866II_List.txt I've only used my programmer for writing EPROMs for some breadboard projects and don't have a lot of experience...

I know the previous owner of the SE/accelerator, and he was using it with those SIMMs (over 20 years ago). I do have a big box of 30pin SIMMs though, so I could try a few different sets anyways. I have to install these new caps anyways though because there aren't any on the board right now :)

So I checked every iffy-looking trace and via, and they all have continuity across the iffy-looking parts. Also looked around the board under the microscope for bridged pins, etc and didn't see anything like that. I also ruled out a bad SIMM a year ago (swapped SIMMs with the SE logic board)...

Most useful? I guess the print that I "use" the most is the little hook for my headphones that clips onto the edge of my desk.

In related news, my GGLabs SCSI card arrived today, and I had GS/OS booting off a BlueSCSI within 20 minutes :)
