I'm neither a materials expert, nor an expert in film care/handling. I liked your idea about the teflon tape (seems easier to secure to the posts than pec pads) but ChatGPT suggests that it isn't adviseable. However, the base material in teflon tape (PTFE) is often used for similar use cases...

Like you, I am relatively new to Davinci Resolve (DR), however I've had semi-professional experience (and a lot of amateur/hobby experience) with Final Cut Pro and Adobe Premiere. Here is a brief summary/recomendations on my approach to the Post-scan process: 1. Take some time to determine your...

My 2 cents here: feel free to continue sharing the technical info here in thread. While you two are engaging quite a bit above my head, I think it's fine to keep it documented here. I grab some popcorn and am pleased to see some fine work being done to support the latest hardware. The occasional...

@Deano, I agree 1000% with Videodoctor. Please consider putting that lens mod write-up as a Resource (Article). You can do that here: https://tinkerdifferent.com/resources/ and select "Add Resource / Article." I think you should be able to copy/paste it all. I'll be adding a link to your post...

Hacking the Kodak Reels 8mm Film Digitizer (New Thread)

I appreciate the amount of technical detail you included here - you probably fit in nicely with the tinkerers here. 0dan0 already addressed some of the points you raised regarding the sensor. So I'll just add a couple of my reflections on your post. Not sure if I understood your comment about...

Hacking the Kodak Reels 8mm Film Digitizer (New Thread)

I don't think others have reported that specific issue in these threads. My 2 cents... it may be worth requesting a replacement unit. While you might be able to snap things into their right place, it could be that there are other build quality issues connected to the body mis-alignment. Some...

Hi @WowIndescribable, a few of my thoughts... Based on a recent post, it seems as though is 0dan0 is starting to wrap up his work on this firmware. My opinion is that since version 7.3 or so, the firmware features have gotten "good enough" for use to start using on a big "family film archive"...

Hi @0dan0, I'm attaching 2 slightly jittery captures using the debug feature on my lens modified Model C scanner. I haven't had jitter quite as dramatic as the one you just posted, so these ones will hopefully suffice for now. Movie0014: Moderate bottom jitter Notably, the second jittery...

@0dan0, thanks for the v7.7 update. It seems to be working well on my Type C scanner. I like having the stats/settings over on the right side, to not obscure the scan preview - well done! ISO Max setting works well. As you you had mentioned previously, the ISO does not exceed 400 during...

This is most likely due to the encoder freezing up and can be mitigated in various ways. See the “Known Issues” section of the User Guide (link in my signature). Also, it could be the file size limit being reached.

The Qp (Quantization Parameter) level that you set (15) and see being achieved (16) is quite good (essentially the highest quality compression you can achieve on this hardware with this current custom firmware, and WAY better than what you could achieve with the stock firmware). Qp can be...

Hacking the Kodak Reels 8mm Film Digitizer (New Thread)

Thanks @0dan0, I can confirm that at on my Type C scanner, the ISO value does 400 ISO during film scanning and also reported up to 800 ISO when I put my finger between the light and the lens (blacking out the sensor). Also, the encoder is showing as running at Qp 16 (when set to 15). Thanks for...

I see that the Qp level now ranges from 15 to 29 (instead of 39) and it no longer loops back to 20 when exceeding that range) = Good!
