I must say that size reduction is impressive. Your new v2 DB24 seems to be roughly the same size as the v1.1 DB25, as per my observation of Kay Koba's photo here...
Great job!
I look forward to seeing that the 3D printed case designs will look like.
@Mac84
So, were you really able to cut 4 to 10 hours of database file reindexing down to only 10 minutes?
:)
Seriously, if you have a video out on that I would love to see it. Didn't find it on your channel page when I checked just now, but maybe I over looked it. One video I did find though...
That raises the question about cost and what is deemed "overpriced" though. The advice being given here is that "even if there's a working battery, unless the machine has been recapped, it's best if the seller does NOT try to power it on." And so, if they don't test it, it could have dead...
Thank you for the excellent feedback! I now have 2 questions...
1. So the 5126 doesn't have a "Hybrid" and therefore is perhaps a better choice than the 5120 model Portable?
2. What causes the SWIM chip to die? Cap goo?
If prices are that low in Switzerland, I need to acquire one from...
I am curious what issues people need to be aware of when buying a Macintosh Portable, especially the backlit model (5126).
I realize Portables won't power on without a good battery, but new batteries like this are sold on EBAY. Maybe some of you can share experiences with those.
I also realize...
Folks, I discovered something new with my SE/30 & FloppyEMU last night. I reported it to Steve Chamberlin of BMOW, and he kindly wrote back with the answer. I thought it might be a situation where some of you vintage Mac hackers might get some kicks out of this.
BACKGROUND
As you know, the...
@YMK
Sorry if this is written somewhere, but what are all the file types that your Commander app can understand?
Your screenshot only shows SIT files. But can pretty much any file be downloaded from Macintosh Garden be placed in the root (or directory of one's choice) on a properly...
@Mu0n, I saw your reply under this FB post by @Ron's Computer Videos today, which brought me back to this thread. I re-watched the Adrian's Digital Basement video you linked in your opening post and noticed that during his Crystal Quest game play, the display is stretched vertically. Note how...
Yes, I am using a stock SE/30 ROM because most people use a stock ROM rather than the BMOW version. I have a ROM-inator II MEGA (8MB edition), but I didn't test my RAM configs with that, for the reason that most people probably wouldn't have that ROM. But it would be an interesting test to see...
I actually spoke to the book owner prior to your two replies today about the missing IBM images because I had noticed that yesterday. The book owner expressed his own surprised to me and said he had to do a double-take.
I think the real issue here is that the book publisher didn't make time...

I ran across a post by the book owner on FaceBook and lamented the high cost of the out-of-print book and the fact there was no scan of it. He very kindly scanned it and put it on the Wayback Machine today...
It would be nice if the audio problem goes away on the Plus. I remember that Kay Koba told me his Carerra040 had a similar problem when installed on his SE/30 but didn’t have the problem when installed on a IIci. So you never know until you test, I guess.
First of all, congratulations on an amazingly great project DONE WELL!
Man, do I know that about those frustrating ICs with pins that curl under the body.
SOAP BOX!
PCB creators, if you create something and have board space, please make the pads to extend out beyond the legs so soldering iron...
I assume that "other thread" means the MLA, and I'm not sure where that thread is, hence my confusion about what has been said and hence my continued curiosity. If there's no practical purpose without a NuBus Controller, as you said, then did the creation by @Bolle & @joethezombie truly...
What is this?
Sorry, I'm ignorant of the goings on at the MLA. I see it's a card for the SE/30 with multiple slots and a NuChip (versus an OldChip?) ha ha. But what is the main purpose?
I made a pristine 600dpi scan of a mint condition brochure, which I acquired from the original photographer on EBAY. To avoid moire, I did not apply sharpening, but it honestly looks sharp enough that added sharpening is not needed. For more information, please see my video here.
