Just bragging about my G4 iMac G3.

The air wafting out the top isn't detectably warmer than before. I do have a 40mm fan strapped to the horizontal output transistor heatsink on the analog board, pulling air upwards so as not to fight the existing convection. It did run through the Norton system benchmarks without any hiccups or...

Tips for getting scratches out of G4 Cube and Studio CRT?

Yeah you can see the sort of thing I'm talking about in your after close-up shot of the ADC CRT. Look at the spot from the light's reflection and see the swirly scratch marks, except I was dumb and used a linear motion with my paper towels, so it was far more noticeable.

Just bragging about my G4 iMac G3.

Disclaimer; I didn’t actually do this, I bought the logic board on eBay after a lovely chat with the previous owner. notes: My 400mhz Indigo is of the summer 2001 variety I think. It has the single white power LED. The logic board came from an early Ruby DV, apparently, and would have expected...

Tips for getting scratches out of G4 Cube and Studio CRT?

Tried paper towels with novus on my iMac G3... not good. Left tons of scratches, at least with my standard Bounty towels. Try shop towels, they're *far* softer. Or an old t-shirt, that's what I used to undo the damage I did with paper towels. Be warned, it takes about 10x longer than you think...

Slot-loading iMac G3 dual PCI breakout development

ARgh! Am I ever a bozo. I even went and ordered connectors! Somehow I never comprehended until now while staring at the picture above that this "mezzanine slot" was 140 pins, while the original was 160 pins. The existing pinout is genuinely worthless for reverse engineering this. What a maroon...

If any mods see this can you move this to the hardware subforum? Thanks.

Slot-loading iMac G3 dual PCI breakout development

I found the Columbus (iMac g3 tray) schematics which have a pinout of the mezzanine slot. I’d be surprised if they changed between boards, but next time I have a chance I’ll probe the power and grounds that I can find on my slot loader to confirm they’re at least in the same spot. then I’ll...

Slot-loading iMac G3 dual PCI breakout development

Makes sense. Mmm ok so that means that smaller unpopulated header must also be a PCI connector of some sort, pretty sure that's the only way a decoder board could work, unless it's like... PC Card or something, which is just PCI anyways. I'll investigate that one too at some point. Good find...

Slot-loading iMac G3 dual PCI breakout development

Noticed this unpopulated header while playing with the logic board on my G3, here's a picture with it highlighted from wikimedia: My guess is an unpopulated mezzanine slot or similar, but does anyone have any actionable info? Could be fun to hook something up to it...

NOS Performa/powermac 5400 (5xxx) tube into slot loading iMac G3

This is an informational post to confirm for any hopeful future googlers that the tube from a Power Macintosh/Performa 5xxx series swaps directly into a slot loading iMac G3 (at least my early 400mhz DV) with no issues. There’s a dynamic purity/moire coil on the iMac tube that doesn’t exist on...

G3 AIO Molar Mac No Chime No Light Yes Fan after cleaning PSU

And it's back. Probably a cracked solder joint or maybe some alcohol hadn't fully evaporated. Or it wanted to spite me. Whatever the case, works great now.

G3 AIO Molar Mac No Chime No Light Yes Fan after cleaning PSU

So in order to replace the fan on my Molar, I took the PSU out and it was *filthy*, absolutely caked in dust. So I used a combination of paper towels, Q-tips, 99% IPA, and a small cordless vacuum to clean out most of the dust. While reassembling the molar after replacing the fan, I decided to...

    molar Mac cooling fan size?

Well aware of Noctua and I intend to get one eventually, but this computer requires a fan to run for more than a couple minutes, and these are what I had at work.

    molar Mac cooling fan size?

Ok I got one of everything and went home. 92mm. Delta Fans AFB0913H 13V 0.3A fan. Pretty beefy. Putting in a random 92mm Delta from a dell. Half the power draw but hopefully it'll do the job.

    molar Mac cooling fan size?

... Did I seriously post this thread twice in the same forum instead of two different forums? Am dumb, sorry. Feel free to delete one.

    molar Mac cooling fan size?

Hey gang, my Molar's fan is *screaming* and I'd like to replace it with something new and not screaming. Does anyone know how big the fan is? I'm at work and would like to grab one before the weekend, thanks. Just for future googlers: Power Macintosh G3 AIO Fan Size

The black Mac no one asked for (Powermac G3 All-In-One Molar)

Maybe a polish? God that's a lot of holes though. No I think if I wanted to go transparent then vacuum forming a new shell would be the way to go. The first iMacs weren't clear, after all.

I figure if it doesn't work out I can always use paint thinner.
