[Discussion] Use of AI/LLM in the retro community

Vibe coding & AI has opened the gate, allowing enthusiast laymen to participate in the learning and creation process of apps where before it was gate kept … not by people rather by life or bandwidth or learning style etc. For these folks, AI and LLMs are an amazing learning and productivity tool...

What did you do to your computer today?

I am currently at El Cap on the 1,1. This was many years ago at this point but I used the Piker installer to get up to 10.11.6. Everything works great except you need to turn off updates. I forget which one but one of them will brick the machine lol. 😂

What did you do to your computer today?

I assumed all the cMPs used delidded cpus (I only have the 1,1). Yep they sure do use standard LGA771 sockets for lidded CPUs. Well shoot I was looking forward to delidding them but aside from feeling stupid for not researching that, this is great news for pushing this upgrade forward :) Better...

What did you do to your computer today?

Very nice. I have a set of clover town cpus to bring my core count up from 4 to 8 on my 1,1 but I need to get around to delidding them first - Eventually lol. I have to go cut down a tree on my parents property first though. Just got done sharpening the chain and attaching my 20” bar to my 60cc...

What did you do to your computer today?

I was missing my cMP 1,1 boot screen so I installed a Mac HD5770 into that macpro. I also took the Radeon apart prior and cleaned/repasted the gpu. I also thought my a1117 PMG5 didn’t have enough rgb, so I installed a NOS 2004-5 Fantec Spectrum fan card. Those HD5770s are so cheap I think I’ll...

What did you do to your computer today?

Back in February on a trip to the dump, I found a junked Presario box with no case (just the frame) and a broken vga port in the recycling box. I didn’t know if it worked or not but figured if anything, the dvd burners and era bobs n’ bits would be worth the scoop. I got around to cleaning &...

I found some old 2006 footage of an Alibi Crawl music festival my then band played. I used my Powermac G5+Final Cut Studio to cut up the single video file into individual songs.

Stranger Things, I think I blame it, at least partially, to a nostalgic vintage quest... Leading me to Game nostalgia also, DnD, Myst, Hitchhiker's

Such a great series :) Having been born in the 70s and being a BMX bike riding, ET loving, Atari 2600 playing, quarter hoarding arcade junkie, c64 kid of the 80s, this series was so much nostalgic fun to watch with my wife who is 8 years younger than me so she missed the 80s culturally speaking...

    Kitchen demo & remodel

If you are anchoring into a stud I don’t think spacing is too big of a deal meaning you can maximize your space and keep everything tight. Now if you are anchoring into the sheet rock with something like toggle bolts. Then yes, I would spread the weight out so you don’t over load a single...

What did you do to your computer today?

Today I was messing with retroarch v1.20.0 on MX v25.1. There were many issues to just get to the point of installing cores. My basic install was missing download cores menu, which for whatever reason was turned off haha, so I had to enable it via settings>user Interface>Menu Item...

What did you do to your computer today?

I made some progress today. I was able to adjust config in settings to get srps beta Aquacenter to play clean and smooth playback from Plex on my Powermac G5. It's not perfect as when the episode is over, it doesnt forward to the next one but watching 2026 Plex on a 2004 Powermac G5 is pretty...

What did you do to your computer today?

I worked on placing my mac chime montage on my landing page and updated some of the page names & added a MX logo at the bottom although I just realized I did not make the back ground transparent - oops LOL. I also started working on my retro console/hand held page with organizational...
