Checkerboard like that indicates that the CPU is running, it's not being held in RESET and the ROM is working - you're experiencing a RAM issue. Check all the RAM SIMM's are installed correctly, and the jumper is left OPEN unless you're using 256k SIMM's

At this point I'd order replacement chips and transistors, they're pennies each.

Correct. The same SWIM is used in the: SE/30 IIx IIcx IIci IIsi Macintosh Classic Quadra 700 There are a few other models too, but can't be certain off the top of my head.

Just a word of warning - I purchased a flyback from Dalbani a few years ago - while it looked new, all the internal windings were melted/shorted together. I never got a refund either.

That much of a jump is simply too much for the entire system, when you swap that oscillator, you're also overclocking the system bus and everything attached to it.
